    There is just so, so much wrong with the way sex is looked at in the United States. I am completely and totally not surprised that “Senior Salute” and “sexual scoring” exists. While it’s been that way for boys for centuries, girls have their own way of “sexual scoring,” too.

    We have to find a better way of explaining sex as a way to connect with a HUMAN BEING, nit just their parts or a way to get yourself off.

    I hear from way too many “sex positive” people who seem to forget that their partners are people and say crass things meant to limit the humanity of their sexual conquests. While that doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily be pre-disposed to assault, treating sex as a prize, and not a shared experience definitely does not help!

      i dont think there is anything wrong with boning someone just to get yourselves off, just as long as both parties are on the same page

      in this case with the senior salute, there is a weird power dynamic at play which i think differs from informed, consenual, one night stands.

      Exactly. I don’t think every sexual experience has to be a deep emotional connection, but I do agree that at the very least people should respect the humanity of their partners. Like, you guys can both get your rocks off, but at least have some basic respect for each other. Which of course starts with the clear consent of both partners.

As the rich/poor divide widens and the conspicuous consumption by the rich is ever more displayed to people wondering how they’re going to feed their children or hoping that they don’t have a medical emergency that financially destroys their lives, the chances of a violent backlash increase. Is it any wonder the wealthy and powerful of this country are really invested in disarming the poor? Controlling their access to information?

    Yeah, I’m shocked that male teenagers who are sent to a school which costs more than the average salary in the United States think that they are entitled to sex from women. Can’t imagine where they get their sense of entitlement.

      It makes me worried what is probably happening to the women in their home lives to develop that entitlement.

      Less their dads are just setting them aside for the sex talk they never give them and going: -“Look son, those babes you’re after?     The assault allegedly took place during a tradition authorities say was called the “Senior Salute,” in which graduating senior boys attempt to take the virginities of younger girls before graduating.

    So the authorities knew about this and did jack shit about it?

    When asked why the freshman girl would lie about this, he replied that it’s a “great source of pride for younger students” to have sex with seniors. In a police affidavit, Labrie, who was a prefect educated in statutory rape laws and consensual sex, told detectives that he had been pushing back against the “Senior Salute” tradition, pointing his finger at St. Paul’s School. “The school has to put its foot down on this culture,” he’s quoted as saying. “It’s not healthy.”

    So Labrie’s response is essentially, “Girls are sloots, and it’s the school’s fault.” Where’s a motherfriggin’ table so I can flip it!!!!

    * = depending on how much money this kid’s family has he won’t see a day of jailtime and his crimes will be reduced to misdemeanors or completely dropped because they’ll dig up some impropriety in the victim’s history that his lawyer’s will start screaming “SEE?! SEE?! SHE TOTALLY ASKED FOR IT!”. He’ll probably emerge from this with an internship with a Republican senator or other political figure.

All he had to do was call the girl a ‘slut’ and blame peer pressure. Poor widdle white boy can’t be held responsible for what he did!

    He understood to intimidate the victim. He understands that scapegoating the culture will earn him leniency. He seems so disturbingly aware of how wrong what he did was and that he only cares about whether or not he gets caught in light of that is disconcerting to say the least...
