“rape of unbelievers is a holy act”

Conveniently declaring violent transgressions against human dignity by justifying them as holy acts seems to be at the heart of the ISIS ‘belief system.’

The only good piece of information here is the call by the Yazidi religious leader to welcome all women and girls back - that seems like it would be common sense, but often, those who managed to survive all the horrors visited upon them go home only to find themselves ostracized for being the survivors of war crimes and rape.

You really, really don’t need the scare quotes here. They are quranic literalists.

I read the NYTimes piece with my jaw dropped open the whole time. I thought I couldn’t be surprised anymore by the depravity and evil of some members of the human race. I was wrong. These poor, poor people.

It wasn’t that long ago, though, that war everywhere was like this. We are all descendant from people who have done horrible things, and the ability to be this evil is, in one form or another, in all of us.

That is what scares me most.

When I got to the end, I felt deep revulsion and despair. How can you be so brainwashed as to rape children and think it’s okay. I think I could personally kill these people but they would totally be fine with it and die as “martyrs” - you can’t win with these idiots. :(

I’m glad we’re finally talking about the atrocities women go through in other parts of the world. America definitely isn’t perfect but we are better off in some respects. As a woman, I am glad I live in the United States and not in Iraq or Syria.

Oh, so you don’t want to be sold into sex slavery by medieval sociopaths? Way to step way out on a limb there.

This is beyond horrific. I have heard that one major challenge with ISIS is that they essentially believe that they are ushering in the end of days, and this certainly aligns with that.

However, I would recommend that Jez follow in the steps of major news outlets and refer to the “self-proclaimed Islamic state,” rather than the “Islamic state.” If there was a terrorist group committing disgusting acts and calling themselves the “Feminist Ideal,” or something, we would certainly qualify that chosen name.

What I wouldn’t give for a cage match between some ISIS fighters and the Doomsday members of the Republican party to determine who’s armageddon is about to happen. The optimal outcome, of course, is that both sides kill each other in the fight to determine who is going to end the world.

We ought to be calling them Daesh, as that’s the name their opponents in the region call them. Supposedly they don’t like it, and regardless, it removes the legitimacy conferred by calling them the “Islamic State.”

ISIS: thugs and bullies who sideline in rape and murder. outcasts from their home societies. people who feel like they do not belong. men who can’t get laid, find/hold a job, and who feel disrepsected in general by a social structure that offers them no home. But hey, join the caliphate! We’ll give you a signing bonus, a gun and a couple of little girls to rape wheneverr you want!

And if that doesn’t make you feel like a man, here’s a machete and some poor schlub we yanked off the street because we want to fuck his wife. Have at it man, first dibs on the wife is yours.

This leaves me feeling deep, deep despair. I just don’t even know what to say.

I typically don’t advocate violence, but after reading the NYT articles on this, I’m not sure I would be opposed to burning these fuckers alive. They definitely make me question my anti-death penalty stance.

But as Human Rights Watch detailed in April, there’s a need for better counseling services for survivors, physicians who understand how to get informed consent before examining rape victims, as well as educational services for girls and job training for women.

This is very true, not just in the communities ravaged by ISIS but conflict zones the world over. UN Security Council resolutions typically call for sex-specific support in conflict and post-conflict environments, but rarely are those calls heeded by governments.

You know what gets me? The fact that these human wastes can do and justify this, but one of the big reasons they’re considered attractive and “righteous” is that they can’t be bribed. So, sexual assault and murder is fine, but not taking a bribe.
