My kids had them until three and it didn’t stop them from talking my ear off. They’re outside right now and the yammering is nonstop. Prediction: Harper will live. But if the Beckhams are looking for an effective removal method one day...

Kid 1: Her ‘see-doo’ got dropped into a river and floated to a new baby.

Kid 2 (way more addicted): The ‘nee-noo fairy’ took it and left a present. A car mat and cars. Big hit.

We kept telling ours “4 year olds don’t use pappies”. Like a miracle, she threw them away on her 4th birthday and never used them again. Hopefully that'll work for our 2.5 year old when the time comes. Otherwise it'll be the fairies and presents.

My daughter was 2 and during a flight to Portland her binkies took another flight, to Montreal, to visit binkie relatives. When we got home she discovered a postcard from them saying they loved Canada and they wanted to stay. She agreed to it.

You want to see concern trolling hit critical mass? Check out any video that features a child in a car seat. Granted, a lot of kids are improperly secured in car seats or are using the wrong kind of car seat for their age/height/weight/whatever, and I think there’s a way to bring it up to a fellow parent in a helpful way, but people go absolutely balls out crazy about this. I swear it’s a hobby.

There was a four page post on my mom board about William and Kate taking George home and whether or not he was strapped into the carseat correctly. EVEN THOUGH none of them know anything about British carseats, which are apparently different contraptions than over here. Andplusalso, they probably drove 5mph (10kph?) all the way home due to paps/security and it was like, 2 min away. SO yeah, people lose their goddamn minds over car seat ‘correctness’.

I read a STFUParents article and one woman talked about how she kept commenting and messaging this one mother about her car seat. The mother deleted the comments and ignored the messages. The mother finally ended up blanking her on Facebook. The woman did not take the hint and was going on and on about how horrible it was the mother was ignoring her. She just wished nothing bad would happen to that child because the mother wasn’t listening. She didn't seem to realize she was being incredible creepy and stalkery.

They don’t care about Harper’s speech or her teeth. They just want to be nosy and criticize the Beckhams, who seem to be pretty good parents.

It’s not even any of a pediatrician’s business. Why experts on the diseases of childhood became considered experts on parenting baffles me.

A local ‘star’ pediatrician is a family friend, and he’s a great guy. In a crisis, he took care of one of our kids, and did a wonderful job, but for day to day care of healthy people, we use a family doctor, not a pediatrician, because they have a much better sense of their own limitations. The wisdom of this choice was borne out when on the same day a couple of months ago, a friend who uses him for their kids said he lectured her about letting her children co-sleep (again, a parenting issue, not a medical issue) and his wife, over coffee, told me that at one point in the night before all four of their kids had been in bed with them.

When you need a pediatrician, thank God they are there. But to a man with a hammer, yada yada yada. Not everything is a nail.

I’m a speech language pathologist and this kind of judgment just pisses me the hell off. Most kids who don’t have passies in all day can overcome this just fine. And the SLPs who judge it are most likely just judging to be judgy mcjudgerson and not because there’s this huge amount of research that pacifiers cause speech issues that aren’t easily reversed. Just one more thing to “blame parents” and it’s so unnecessary! So few kids have speech issues SOLELY based on thumb or passie use, and if it is... what a flippin’ easy fix!

I sucked my thumb until the 4th grade and my teeth are just fine. My thumb was mildly deformed for awhile, but it is totally fine now!

And even if Harper’s teeth end up a little wonky, it's not like they can't afford orthodontia!

I sucked mine for a bit longer than that. It caused a number of teeth and jaw problems. So, meh, YMMV. Still, I don’t give two shits about someone else’s kid and their decisions on this. Plus, it wasn’t like they could stop me from sucking my thumb as a kid. They even used to put that gross shit meant for nail biters on my thumb. I’d suck it off in my sleep. It was unconscious.

I googled images of ventriloquist dummies to make a pun joke but now I’m too creeped out to follow through. Moral of the story: don’t google images of ventriloquist dummies.

My normal reaction would obviously be to do exactly what you’re advising against. However, those dummies have always freaked me out so I'm totally not looking up that shit.

In case anyone ever wonders what the definition of concern trolling is - the response to the pacifier use of Harper pretty much illustrates it. People need to STFU indeed.

This really is an example of concern trolling. We don't know what the Beckhams are doing and frankly it's none of our business. Their kids seem healthy and I'm sure they have access to the best care.
