His comments say way more about his insecurities and personality than it ever could about Ronda Rousey but he isn’t even intelligent enough to figure that out.

My mom and dad took turns being the one with the most success. Dad took care of stuff while mom got her PhD and when she was a superintendent of schools. Mom took care of stuff when dad was director of table games.

Also Joe Rogan is a harmful dilettante and I’m baffled by the fact that he has any kind of career in saying words in public.

A strong man, in my opinion, doesn’t let the amount of fame his lady earns bother him because he wants to see her succeed and be at the top of her game.

Sure, but I think whenever you have a situation where one partner’s career is going really well and the other’s isn’t I think it’s kind of natural that it’s going to cause some friction and I don’t think it’s limited to just dude-lady relationships. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka have talked about that, for instance. I imagine the nature of the MMA world might intensify that.

I think women are significantly more comfortable with taking the back seat and not making as much money as a general population rule than men. But there is also more societal tolerance and pressure for women to be accepting of this, while the same sexist stereotype that is partially responsible for women making less money also can lead men to feel insecure about their masculinity when they date a woman who doesn’t fit that mold and is way more successful than they are. Still though, I don’t think that excuses his comments.

Hahahahaha, I had a boss like this. Punk used to go on about how he was doing so well (he was moving up pretty quick) that he and his wife didn’t need her measly lil’ salary. One day, he came in with steam coming out of his ears; seems that wifey-poo got offered a massive promotion - with a tripling of her pay, which turned out to be not so measly to begin with - on the condition that they move from MI to PA. We were openly laughing at him for his minidick attitude, which made him even madder.

postscript: we found out several years later that the move was the best thing that ever happened to him careerwise. Motherfucker should be on his knees kissing his wife’s ass every day until the day he retires.

She’s needs a guy who’s gonna take a back seat and that’s not me, she also needs a guy who’s gonna say ‘Yes ma’am.’ She’s so successful, she’s surrounded by people who worship her and say ‘Yes, yes, that’s a great idea.’

I assume this guy is an ass, because he’s a UFC fighter and that’s a good default assumption about them, but that doesn’t also mean that Rousey doesn’t enjoy being surrounded by “yes men”. It’s a common enough thing among big time athletes, and it frequently results in them engaging in fairly destructive financial or personal behavior.

I can’t decide quite how credible I think this is, the way he describes it anyway. “She also needs a guy who’s gonna say ‘Yes Ma’am!’” makes it seem like an exaggeration and a dig. Maybe she has fallen into a common trap for successful athletes and is getting bad advice/surrounding herself with sycophants. But they were just dating, and not every boyfriend or girlfriend really gets to “trusted advisor” status. He doesn’t say she’s made poor decisions or is getting bad advice, just implied that she’s vulnerable to it. That’s surely true. She could be throwing money down the toilet on bad investments, or he resents not being in the circle that has input on investment decisions. Or both.

I’ve been following both of them since they started in MMA. The worst I’ve ever heard anyone say about Brendan is that he’s a bit of a bro, and that’s pretty easy to see. It doesn’t automatically make him a bad dude, though. Ronda, before she became America’s Sweetheart over the past year, was known to be pretty rough around the edges. She was “that girl” we all went to high school with who had a chip on her shoulder and no social skills. That doesn’t make her a bad person, either.

I can, however, see how those two personalities wouldn’t exactly mesh.
