What the hell is a 'non-driving' partner with Uber? Like just someone that's riding around in the car with the driver? What's the point of joining with a company if you are not going to do literally the one thing that people do for that company. That'd be like applying for a job as a cook and then not cooking.

The letter makes it sound as if Chammout had a limousine company and that he was using Uber as a platform to promote that service. He was the one who established the relationship with Uber for that purpose but he wasn’t going to be one of the drivers. (You can own or represent a limousine company without being a limousine driver, just like how you can manage a restaurant without being a chef.)

Ah, thank you. that clears it up some. Still shitty for Uber to not follow up on a background check on him though.

I mean it is essentially getting into a car with a stranger. My mom would be so mad at me.

And while a taxi is basically the same thing, it’s a commercial vehicle and your driver is (probably) employed by someone that you can complain to if something happens.

With Uber, you complain to... Who?

Medallion drivers also have to go through extensive background checks, regular inspections, etc., etc.

Uber says it will review every driver using its platform in Dallas to suss out any other fraudulent permits.

Uber also says “Fuck You” if you live anywhere other than Dallas, you’re on your own

Uber continues to fail to take responsibility for the behavior of its drivers and its croneys continue to troll any article calling out the company filling it up with politicized comments about how Uber is the new everyman’s transportation solution. (vomit)

Guess what, when you’re a private company with unethical business practices you deserve to be called out. This is story number gazillion about Uber drivers assaulting people. This isn’t about the war between the yellow cabs and the black cars, I couldn’t care less about that. What I care about is there’s a company purposely turning a blind eye and profiting off of unsafe situations for women. For those of you who turn it into the yellow cabs vs the black cars, how safe does this article make you feel about your wives and daughters and sisters getting into that car?

Also, if one more person forwards me that dumb free ride offer after I read an article about another woman being raped by an UBER driver I’m going to lose my mind. “Hey look you can get raped for free now” ... oh yippee.

“In this instance, we failed to live up to our own high standards”

Is this a joke? How high can your standards be if you don’t live up to them, let alone numerous times?

          “Sorry” but not “responsible.”

People, Uber is just a way for vulture capitalists to get in on that juicy Gypsy cab money. That’s ALL it is. Stop treating it like a proper corporation.

No discussion on how Broward County in Florida banned uber until it has better background checks and uber has to publicly share the names of their drivers?
