Thank you Jon, for being a voice of reason in a world that’s lost its goddamn mind.

Thank you Sir. I really enjoyed watching your show (which was amazingly broadcasted in France for a few years). You will be missed.

Jon, you were brilliant, erudite, and just plain awesome. You shamed Congress into passing the 9-11 responders health care bill, you fed Tucker Carlson his testicles on Crossfire, and you gave birth to brilliant talent....John Oliver, Steve Carrell, and Stephen Colbert among others. You will be missed buddy. Your humor and righteousness will be missed. I crief when you cried. Granted, I had already consumed ten gin and tonics at the time. Thank you for being the human antidote to those ten morons on stage tonight. God speed, God bless. All the best.

True! (Colbert was always a huge talent though, Strangers with Candy?)

I’d certainly say he was a talent, but ‘The Daily Show’ really brought him into the public consciousness and led to ‘The Colbert Report’.

I posted something similar on social media, but possibly more than any influence besides my family, Jon Stewart affected my political, cultural, and world view in my coming-of-age moments. He was the constant as I struggled (and struggle) to make sense of the mundane, tragic, and farcical. It’s true I had begun to take him for granted, but he will be desperately missed. I feel like a dear friend has passed.

My kids said the same. They are 22 and 17. We usually watched together and it was the one show we all loved, besides Colbert. They are really sad right now and yet I feel so happy that they had him in their lives. I had nothing close to this level of awesomeness. Just assholes who told me what to think by way of politicians who bought airtime. Jon Stewart is a national treasure and his legacy will be felt in every young person who grew up with him.

While we’re all sad to see him go, we can take comffort in the fact that he can now make that sequel to Half Baked.

You know, I had avoided looking into this until now. I hadn’t come across any articles on it, and didn’t look one up. Fuck. This is some disappointing stuff. I respect Wyatt Cenac for speaking up.

I dunno, I saw him jumping up and down with everyone else at the end of Colbert’s segment. It’s a comedy writers room - people yell and argue and curse each other out.

My 22 and 17 year old sons watched in sadness what has been a household staple for them their entire lives. Despite us being a pretty open and political family, it was Jon Stewart who created the discussion with our kids about various subjects. Both of them are better people, more socially aware, more compassionate and more understanding human beings because of a little show that was on daily.

I’m also 22 and The Daily Show had a huge impact on me, so I’m glad your sons had a similar experience. This is probably going to sound incredibly naive and silly, but it was an important show that helped me understand everything a little better. It has something to do with coming out of childhood and realising that all the values that have been instilled in you aren’t actually that important in the real world and that people can be crappy. Seeing Jon Stewart talk about Iraq, Bush, WMDs and everything else and still managing to find humour in between outbursts of rage made a huge impression on pre-teen me, and still does.

That isn’t weird at all. We are all products of our parents. Some prepare us for real life, others prepare us for their version of it.

You know what’s awesome though? You. That you are able to see through the bullshit and make up you own mind. I love that. Parents, while we try to be good, I swear what I want most for my own kids is to be themselves, not versions of me. I want them to open up their own minds, learn, discover and come to their own conclusions. You sound amazing. Kudos and never stop asking questions.

I’m going to watch this tomorrow morning & I know I’m going to cry. Watching Jon made me realize all the bullshit that my family and teachers were spewing & that republicans don’t have my best interests at heart. I will be eternally grateful for not only the laughs but the enlightenment.

The Daily Show and Colbert Report both came to prominence during my time in college and were important daily social functions for myself and roommates. I must say, I feel like I’m graduating and leaving my friends all over again. With both of them gone, it truly is an end of an era. I hope Trevor Noah proves a success, but it’ll never be the same — nor should it be. Stewart and Colbert’s hour was lightning in a bottle, any imitations would pale in comparison.

I watched him a lot in college, too. I think he helped shape some of my ideas about politics and the media. It won't be the same without but I can understand if he is ready to move on. He seems like a thoughtful guy and dealing with this stuff is wearing.
