    Started reading this, “Oh for godsakes, another shooting in movie theater/school/church” and then was actually shocked when I read

    Another victim may have sustained hatchet wounds.

    So kudos, crazed gunman, for taking it to another frigging level.

    So basically someone DIDN’T hurt anyone with a shoe bomb fourteen years ago and now we have to take off our shoes at the airport but literally tens of thousands of men, women, and children (including first graders in their school - a pile of bullet-riddled six-year-olds who still believed in Santa Claus) have been murdered with guns since then and nothing changes at all, ever. Cool. Got it.

    Ugh. Terribly sad. Apparently the cinema has been discovered as a great way to get multiple victims. So what’s next: metal detectors in cinemas?

      The “hatchet wounds” were superficial bruising per the local news. The victim isn’t even expected to seek treatment. Something to point out the next time gun nuts say more gun control means attackers will just used knives. I’d sooner take my chances with a knife or hatchet than a bullet.

    I’m in Nashville and following it as much as I can. The 1 person dead is the shooter himself. The police press conference just confirmed that the three people who were injured had minor injuries. Shooter is apparently a 51-year-old white male..

      Latest is that the bomb squad is “not comfortable” with the backpacks and that they’re going to attempt to disrupt whatever it is to make it safe. Awesome. Also, the gunman deployed pepper spray in the theater, which is what caused most of the injuries. The hatchet wound is superficial, nobody’s going to the hospital. For context, this theater is our local dollar theater in a not great part of town.

    My hometown in KY is very close to Nashville, I’ve probably been to that movie theater.

    I’m sure people will be saying how if everyone carried guns they would have stopped him before anything happened.

    I live in the Nashville area. My husband and kid were going to a movie today. Thankfully, it is not this theater. Plus, I don’t think he was taking the almost 8 year old to see Mad Max. UGH this is just. Ugh. Fuck gun culture. Fuck the NRA. Fuck all this shit.
