She is the daughter of a “freelance art director” and an ER doctor who grew up with classical ballet training. That’s a very specific type of being “from the Midwest”

The only requirement for being “from the Midwest” is being born and/or raised in the Midwest. You can do ballet and be from the Midwest. In fact, I’m in the Midwest right this second, and I’m going to ballet class after work tonight at one of the nation’s premier ballet companies. CRAZY!

And that makes you equally as unrelatable to the majority of Midwesterners as Karlie Kloss.

She is SO tall. I, myself, am a giantess. I walked past her in the village one time and I was dwarfed. It was beautiful and she is stunning.

I suspect she and Tay-Tay became friends because they’re both so tall. As someone who grew tall very fast in middle school and was self-conscious about being way taller than all of my friends so I developed a hunch. If I had found a tall friend, I would have clung to her like no other.

Who knew I’d be saying this in 2015, but I’m so over Cindy Crawford. All of her business ventures are designed as unapologetic monuments to her own beauty. On social media she’s entirely stuck in the past with “in which #throwback do I look most beautiful?” garbage. Now she’s gone Kris Jenner with her own children. And she’s producing a soap called “ICON” based on her experience as a model. WE GET IT CINDY.

Naomi seems to keep doing what she’s doing because she loves fashion. Christy has turned her attention to humanitarian efforts. Stephanie Seymour, Linda Evangelista, and Claudia Schiffer surface from their family lives now and then for tasteful legacy campaigns. And all of them manage to seem like effortless icons.

But Cindy Crawford? The thirst is strong in that one.

Apparently, Cindy Crawfords’ career was helped by her likeness to the supermodel Gia. Gia faded due to heavy drug use, eventually dying. But Crawford admits to being sent to places that loved Gia, and basically she filled the void after Gia’s tragic passing.

Naomi and Christy have plenty of lucrative deals going at all time that wouldn’t be happening if they weren’t still so beautiful, and I wouldn’t describe Linda Evangelista or Stephanie Seymour as blissfully ensconced in family life so much as deeply involved in vicious court battles with their billionaire exes, which curtails their public personae somewhat. Claudia Schiffer is maybe the only one who fits that description.

But as far as Cindy goes, I think it’s the husband. Rande Gerber is a hustler, always has been. My guess is she always has been too, and that’s part of their relationship. The other girls either married a different kind of guy or are no longer involved with a guy who is entrepreneurial in that way. That said, there are few enough role models in our culture for women who manage to age beautifully and retain their sex appeal in middle age in such an incontrovertible way that I am hesitant to criticize her for it.

Also, pet theory: those two have the weirdest sex life in LA, and I keep hoping a scandal with lots of details will break about it.

I met her boyfriend a few weeks ago, and he was also very tall, very intelligent, and very nice (which is slightly more surprising because he is related by marriage to the Trumps). I imagine they have a lot of fun being very tall, very intelligent, and very nice together.

Ideally, Kloss will evolve into a combination of the two supes: the name/brand recognition of Crawford with the social conscience of Turlington. She’d be able to accomplish so much!

His use of “creature” doesn’t bother me—it’s really the same as calling someone with a rare combination of enviable traits a “unicorn.” Kind of popular these days.

Karlie Kloss looks like a human version of the sketches that designers do for their upcoming collections. She really is exquisite. She posts pictures on her Insta of her doing workouts and stuff and I always stare at them for like 5 minutes b/c how does someone look like that?!
