As interesting as it would be for a show like this to flirt with more edgy presentation, I enjoy its family friendliness. What a great show to watch with kids, you know?

I’m with you. It’s hard to make a genuinely interesting show that is not full of adult content.

Filling it with adult content would turn it into a completely different show — it never had the feeling of avoiding ‘adult’ content because of the censors, it was just the way Kimmy viewed the world. Which was great.

I am almost embarrassingly excited for season two to come out.

I’ve gotten several people to watch this show and share in my devotion. I’ve only streamed it twice and watched the intro on YouTube a few dozen times.....

What can I say, the theme song is catchy (as hell).

Soooo, I’m one of the last people in the universe who got Netflix (only one week ago). Now that I’ve watched all of Bob’s Burgers, I’m onto Unbreakable. It’s nice to watch this while I’m making dinner with the kids around. Really incredible writing - it reminds me of 30 Rock.

It reminds you of 30 Rock because they have many of the same writers and even some of the same jokes (for example, Verizon and Kia Sorrento references, white people nonsense. See if you can spot others!)

You’re goddam right. The chemistry between Tituss and Ellie is the best thing about the show, and I don’t think it is possible to overdo it with them. More of them and less awkward Jane K. scenes please.

Outside of being one of the funniest shows I’ve seen in a LONG time, (maybe even since the wonderfully weird and woefully missed Better Off Ted) this show has, hands-down, the catchist, ear-wormiest theme song of all time.

    Dammit!

      It’s a miracle!

I will admit, embarrassed, that the catchy song also moves me and I may or may not shed a tear every time I hear it.

    What an adorable show!

Anyone know what happened with the NBC deal that it got moved to Netflix? That’s pretty surprising.

NBC knew what a gem they had on their hands but (probably rightfully) had a strong feeling that it’d fail quickly on the network. Since Universal TV is the studio that owns it (a division of Comcast/NBC Universal), they actually benefited greatly from selling the show to Netflix.

I believe the exact NBC reason was that they didn’t have a good comedy block for it to fit in.

Ahhh, I was totally wondering why Kimmy kissing a boy was such a big deal, and her various boyfriends didn’t seem to expect sex. That makes sense now!

I’m totally okay with this. Just because a show isn’t on network TV doesn’t mean they automatically have to go into ‘adult’ territory. Part of the fun of the show is in the sense of childlike wonder and impetuousness in situations that would make most people go WTF or run screaming. Some of us like this kind of light entertainment - and let’s not forget they still managed to be controversial and make salient points about religion, race, homophobia, etc., while keeping the tone light and hilarious.

It kind of behooves the series to keep it PG so that it can continue to skirt around the psychosis that’s lurking underneath its sugary veneer.

But seriously, was someone waiting for Kimmy to take her shirt off? Why is there even a question of whether or not the show will preserve its tone?

I totally agree. The show’s cheery optimism with an underbelly of darkness is the best part, and I don’t want to see what lurks beneath. I mean, if, say, Kimmy found the landlady’s husband’s rotting corpse in full HBO gore with blood, it would be too much and too far. Unless it is a halloween dummy from Titus’s workplace that she’s mistaken for the corpse.

Doesn’t “toe the line” mean to follow the rules, not push boundaries? Or have I been using it wrong all these years?
