(White) People need to stop making references to slavery or the Holocaust or Rosa Parks. Just stop, no-one appreciates it nor do you sound smart saying it. Make some reference to the Potato Famine or something.

And to think, the republican primary season is only going to get crazier from here. It’s going to be a long 15 months.

I was complaining to my dad (a pretty serious republican) that all these asshats aren’t doing themselves any favors by constantly opening their mouths, by not having an actual pr person who is going you all are fucking stupid. And then my father, who has received countless thank you notes from the republican party over the years looks at me in the eye and said “this is why I stopped giving them money”. It was like the sky opened up and logic was upon us. Big day. And I think it’s telling for the current views of a lot of Baby Boomers. Most people are capable of evolving. (I guess so long as you believe in evolution.)

Yeah, my dad was kinda the same way. I don’t think my mom could vote for a candidate who isn’t pro-life even though 1) Roe v Wade has a 97% chance of never being overturned and 2) all those pro-life candidates push economic, education, and welfare platforms that fuel many of the abortions in the first place.

My come-to-Jesus moment was when Mitch Fucking McConnell said his number one priority in the midst of a really shitty recession was seeing Obama not get a second term. How he didn’t get more shit for that, I’ll never know.

I have a friend whose husband has been a big GOP supporter, and she also knew a woman who worked for the state GOP.

She said both of them are seriously questioning the party, and really thinking hard about switching sides, that it’s almost an embarrassment to say you’re a Republican with shit like this, Ted Cruz, Mike Pence, etc.

And this is in Indi-fucking-ana. A place where I had “I’m a dumbass” written in magic marker on the bumper of my white Honda, next to my Obama/Biden bumper sticker. Yes, my car was vandalized over my political beliefs.

Turns out there’s Jewish people on both sides of the aisle, both here and overseas! Some of them are crazy fascists. Some of them are diehard socialists. Some of them welcome your comments, while most of them think you’re talking crazy. It’s almost like Jewish people are no different from anyone else.

The Republican candidates’ love of lumping all Jews together as one people who need Daddy America’s unceasing adulation to protect them from the big bad Arabs is condescending and stupid.

Most Republicans are most likely anti-Semites but still support Israel, in the same way most hate Latinos but will support corrupt regimes in Latin America.

And it’s not really working all that much since, as a group, the Jewish vote skews overwhelmingly democratic and has done so for 100 years. Obama’s +39% margin in 2012 was the lowest since Dukakis only won by 29 points in 1988.

So, is this the new Republican strategy for dealing with offensive comments, just pretend that those who were offended not only weren't but were actually delighted with them?

Yep, based on a) always double down, never back down and b) big lies can become truth if you repeat them often enough. Logical fallicies, but it works for the Republican base and that’s all they care about.
