I’m so glad FB wasn’t around when I was in high school. I did have an embarrassing Live Journal though that I deleted years ago.

There are multiple of my Open Diaries and Xangas out there...I’m not too worried about them ever surfacing because even I can’t remember the usernames. I actually kind of wish I could find them, that would be a fun trip.

    It won’t solve the problem.

Depends on what you think the problem is. Bear attacks? This’ll have no effect on bear attacks.

Well, it will effect bear attacks if young idiots are inclined to surprise wildlife. Youths.

I fully support this. My kid is almost an adult and this summer took a look at her digital footprint and thought “hmmmmm. nope.” New email, new this new that. But all the old stuff is still there lurking on her timeline and on tumblr and whatever the hell she hasn’t told me about. There should be a digital vault where you put your e-self and you can visit it when you’re 30 and a bit drunk and wistful.

Oh, now they get this, the spoiled brats. Where was all this when I was caught scratching, “Up your bum” into a school desk, eh? EH? I had to erase it myself with a wire brush and scouring powder. It’s so unfair!

I approve of this. Teens are impulsive and often don’t think ahead. They often hold views and opinions which will embarrass them later when they are grown up. I still have a bunch of embarrassing ranty posts I made on usenet under my real name when I was 15. I hate to think what my digital trail would look like if I had been 15 in 2005, not 1995.

One exception: keep their boy band fandom posts and tweets so they can cringe when they look back at them in their 30s. Just punishment for taking up valuable Twitter trends spots with their dumb hashtags.
