And this will happen again and again and we will do nothing to mitigate it because we live in a nation of reactionary idiots who believe that in order to be safe they have to be armed to the teeth and are bolstered by dead men who lived two centuries ago who wanted to ensure the populace had access to front loading muskets.

Nothing we do can stop every instance of this insanity but to not do anything in the name of some twisted idea of liberty is immoral.

You’re absolutely right; we will this to happen. Enough people in this country stack a culture of guns against the endless dead bodies, most of them children, and refuse to change the former to save the latter.

These are the days this feels like a soulless country.

People want to keep blaming guns, but consider this. It used to be much easier to get guns. They used to be even more ubiquitous. Yet these shootings are a pretty recent phenomenon. So, if we’ve always had tons of guns, yet this is new, maybe ya know, it's the culture, not the guns.

How about we make buying and owning guns almost impossible and change the culture?

Because that's not needed. Vast majority of gun owners are fine. Let's ban booze because some people drink and drive?

Add up all the mass shootings in the last 5 years and you have your average month in Chicago. Where they have strict gun control. Hows that working out?

Chicago isn’t a island. You can leave Chicago drive to Indiana buy a gun and be back before your lunch break is over.

It’s not the members, many of them want and support gun control. It’s the gun manufacturers who fuel the NRA, less gun control, more guns purchased.

Yup, another one. But, remember folks, we totally don’t have a gun problem. Kids get murdered in school, not a gun problem. People murdered in church, not a gun problem. The SECOND major movie theater shooting in recent memory, and still not a fucking problem. When will it become a problem, America?

Me too. It captures the peculiar dread of the violence that permeates our culture. Violence that is enhanced by massive firepower. I find it interesting that an actual gun is never shown in the video. The firearms are spectral in a way. Not just material items but things we are haunted by

Everyone who is about to comment about “gun control,” remember that anyone insane enough to walk into a theater and do this, is insane enough to fill up a backpack, hop on a train into NYC and demolish a tunnel—let alone swoop right onto the GWB with a truck full of whatever—mind you, enter the subway system.

Keep that in the back of your mind, when you’re talking about freedumb. If you believe “control of weaponry” is of our greatest concern, think about your daily commute, as the entire country walks out of their house and through a metal detector.

It’s mental health, the state of our economy, and our political leaders that need improvement. There are too many unhappy people.

I agree with you, but we still really should have universal background checks - there shouldn’t be any loopholes to get out of that. It takes ~5 minutes per purchase, not much of a sacrifice IMHO.

I’ll give you a great example of why I don’t believe in “background checks,” as they relate to sanity. I have not been to a physician in 4 years. I haven’t gotten sick, had any issues other than a small running nose when it was 0 degrees this past winter...and quite honestly, they never helped improve my life, so why bother going on a “regular” basis. Dentist—2 times every year for a cleaning...

People that have “mental inconsistencies” may never tell their family and friends, let alone take themselves to a doctor for help.

In both instances, a background check will not provide any information that would raise a red flag.........

Maybe instead of focusing on gun control, which isn’t getting us anywhere, we focus on mental health and mental health care?

Oh GOD with the fucking mental health care!! Every. Fucking. Time...

Like the guy last week at the military base: He had been (been) depressed—so of course it has been thrown out there as a likely explanation. The likely explanation, for him mass murdering people. Oh yeah, really? Because that’s what clinicaly depressed people do: murder people. En masse. And certainly statistics would back this up! And not just the kind journalists and pundits pull out of their asses.

And Monday was the three-year anniversary of the previous mass theater shooting. Places you are not safe include churches, movie theaters, schools.

Fuck gun nuts. Fuck the NRA that bought and paid for crazy gun laws that lead to this uniquely American gun violence. Exceptionalism at its best!
