    My question is: Wasn’t it technically illegal for the cop to force her out of her car? I thought a cop needed a warrant to open your vehicle. The video clearly shows the woman isn’t acting threatening - she was smoking a cigarette.

      Probably not. It may have violated department policy, but it is unlikely that it violated either Texas law or Supreme Court precedent.

    Obviously some glitch in in the video, but there doesn’t seem to be any missing video, just repeating.

    What does this have to do with the suicide? Or the arrest at all?

      You’re asking what does a video of an arrest have to do with that arrest? It is evidence of the misconduct of the police that ultimately turned a minor traffic violation into a death.

      No, I’m asking what did this arrest have to with her suicide. And at this point it is a suicide because that is how the coroner ruled it. Now that may change after an investigation, but right now it is a suicide.

    I posted this last night on another thread. It’s just one example of the editing. When the white car alone disappears, that’s what’s in the video: it disappears and re-appears. When both cars disappear, that’s just the start of the gif looping again so that’s not in the video.

      As much as I totally believe some racist cop murdered Sandra Bland and the department is trying to cover it up - if you are going to secretly doctor footage to make it seem less damning, wouldn’t you generally do a better job than this?

It’s like that rapist cop Kenneth Moreno in NY who claimed his victims’ bruising was from...overzealously scrubbing her cervix. Which all women do, obvs (or none, ever in the history of existence). HE WON. Why should they make an effort? They don’t have to, the most egregious lies they can think of are supported by their crooked cop unions and authoritarian bootlickers.

      The outrage from the “keep the government off our backs and out of our business” crowd is rather muted in this case. I’m thinking back to the reaction we saw when the IRS attempted to clarify the tax-exempt status of certain groups. You would have sworn people were being rounded up and marched off to labor camps for being asked to fill out a form.

      Strange that these folks don’t see a problem with a private citizen in her own private vehicle being hauled out of her car for refusing to put out her cigarette.

        They aren’t ‘keep the government off our backs and out of our business’ people, they’re ‘keep the government off of my back and out of my business, and if you have to harass people who aren’t like me, that’s fine’ people.
