Hey, if I’m paying 95 dollars for a Guacamole platter, that shit’s getting finished even if it’s me jumping.

They neglected to add that it’s a 12-15 person serving of guacamole platter for $95. Not quite the same thing.

I mean, $95 of guac, serving the conservative figure of 12 people, is only eight bucks a person.

I move quick, though, and could definitely get more than my eight bucks worth.

The flaw in your plan is that I bet that’s a appetizer for 4 people.

Click the link? It says 12-15. Even using NYC sizing, a super conservative estimate (assuming I was in your party and I was hungry) would be 8 people, and that is still only $12 per person.

I enjoy my false outrage as much as the next person, but do you really think these people stood idly by as someone killed themselves or were they simply unaware of what was going on until it was too late?

you explicitly imputing outrage to this post is like either of us explicitly imputing anything in particular to the people who kept drinking, which is to say: it’d be dumb

Not everyone living in the Hasidic community, though, feels personal and spiritual fulfilment. When growing up in the Belz Hasidic communities of Williamsburg and Boro Park, Brooklyn, Faigy Mayer felt there was more to life than becoming a good Hasidic wife. Faigy has decided to leave the Hasidic community to pursue a secular career in Midtown Manhattan and we see her learning to cope with this transition to the secular world.

There are easier ways to get out of paying your bar tab, jeez.

In all seriousness, though - that’s a tragedy. Not only for her (who knows what prompted that) but for all the folks up top and down below who had to witness it. Can you imagine being on the sidewalk when she landed? Ye gods, no.

To be fair if I’m witness to someone taking their own life and there is alcohol available, there is a very good chance I will drink enough to educe a Gob Bluth style forget me now.

That was my take. If i’m out in the world and see someone die? Get me to a bar.

If I’m in a bar and someone just died outside? I’m staying in the bar.

I know one of the bartenders at this bar!

To be fair, it’s a VERY large rooftop deck and there’s a lot of foliage and furniture - it’s hard to notice anyone doing anything.

And that guac platter feeds 15. Not that im justifying the prices at this place - I didn’t pay a cent the one time I was there.

Yeah, I’ve been to this bar. I don’t think people were being callous. I think they had no clue. The bar rooftop is large with lots of little separate “areas.” That said, I don't know why the bar itself wouldn't close. I don't blane the people drinking who were most likely oblivious. I blame the management.

I’ve been up there a few times. The ledge is really short and also the place is so big and get so full that you dont know whats going on on the other side of the rooftop. Also if memory serves me correct she either landed on 5th avenue or the side street on the northwest corner.

the picture on the article Gawker just put up shows where she landed which is indeed 27th street. That corner of the rooftop is surrounded by tables with umbrellas and some bushes so its hard to see whats going on over there.

When I was an EMT, we got dispatched to an upscale home that was hosting a holiday party. An elderly guest had collapsed.

I finally found the poor guy in the midst of the still-partying guests, who had simply moved away from him and continued to drink and chat, even though he was on the floor right by their feet, was clearly in distress and had vomited. There was only one person at his side reassuring him, probably the host. I was really flabbergasted, but it was only the first of several occasions where I witnessed this kind of behavior.

It was SO bizarre..I still think about it and it’s been years. I’m surprised they didn’t put their drinks and canapés down on the gurney while we assessed him.
