Yeah like they would actually listen I mean if we get any live action Vixen it will be Megalyn Echikunwoke crossing over from the animated series to Arrow and the Flash...at best. Unless WB/DC decides to surprise me in a good way for once

“We’ve been really indoctrinated with this culture of permission. I think it’s true for women, and I think it’s true for people of color. It’s historic, and it’s unfortunate and has somehow become part of our DNA. But that time has passed.”

I’m going into a pretty rough situation at work this week, and this just put the extra wind in my sails that I needed. Thanks Ava!

So good. I’m kind of transitioning in my life and the more assertive I’ve been and the less I’ve asked for permission, the happier I’ve been. I still get the initial urge to ask for permission or doubt myself, but in general the times I’ve overcome those thoughts have worked out for me. But I’m definitely worried a lot of the time that I’ll get fired so there’s that.

I’m also white, conventionally attractive, have no children who depend on me, and have financial fall backs with my family should I not be able to work. So although it would scare the shit out of me to get suspended or fired, I’d be ok and also be able to get a lawyer if shit hit the fan.

And I'm not like running around wreaking havoc or pushing buttons. I'm a great employee... Just starting to do what the white men do.

If you know you’re right? If you know you’ve done the work? It’s always better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. Although I’ve never had to go so far as beg. As a woman in tech I learned fast and early to do the research, make the decision and stand by my convictions. When I get questioned now by execs I ask them “You chose me, you told me you chose me because you know I am smart and I am very good at what I do. If you want someone who runs every last thing by you? Get someone else.” She is 100% right, take what you can from their playbook, leave the shit, and OWN IT!

That has worked for me so much. I gamed the system and came out so fucking far ahead without compromising my principles or snatching the ladder up from other POC (WOC, specifically). “But Ms. Truther, the game is rigged against us, why even play it at all?”

You know how Neo and Trinity did that last battle in the Matrix and they wore that kick-ass leather shit? They knew the Matrix was fake, but they went in guns a-blazing and looking fly as hell. I want to win this damn game, both by the rules the white boys set and by dodging bullets cuz I got it like that. To paraphrase, “I don’t even see the code, all I see is win.”

““Women have been trained in our culture and society to ask for what we want instead of taking what we want,” she continued. “We’ve been really indoctrinated with this culture of permission. Wow. That is so well put that it made me cry a little.

First, all the white guys I know are either failed screenwriters working desk jobs, blue collar workers, or burnouts who were skaters/jocks.

The idea that just being a white male is your ticket to hollywood fame and fortune is insane.

2nd, this is what Duvernay should have just said instead:

Career Tip from Ava DuVernay: ‘Just Sell Out’

          ftfy

Sure, it’s mostly idiot white douchebags who are the producers who greenlight shit like Transformers 3, but why would you want to associate yourself with that?

Selma was a safe black movie...it’s the equivalent of Will Smith. If it was more controversial and “real” white idiot producers wouldn’t have been so apt to fund and promote Selma.

I don’t begrudge DuVernay’s success and I of course think the events of Selma should be known by all, but that one comment of hers and what it signifies has made a noticeable regression in racial equality.

What would have been an “unsafe” black movie?

            don’t be fatuous

“Invisible Man” was an unsafe black book, because it told truths about the way the US worked that regular people didn’t want to confront.

A movie would be the same. There are many examples.

this probably makes me shallow and I want to preface it by saying I’ve seen and appreciated her talent in directing I Will Follow, Middle of Nowhere, and Selma, but, damn, when she is being interviewed, I can’t help but get a bit mesmerized by how incredibly beautiful she is.

I am reading a book by Mika Brezezinksi called Know Your Value and... it’s really good and easy to read. She interviews Arianna Huffington, Valerie Jarrett, Elizabeth Warren.. and stupid guys like Donald Trump (who sort of proves how stupid he is..), Donny Deutch and others about women in the workplace and how they act/react.

I kind of love it. Which is weirding me out. Here’s a pic of her below with Joe. BTW, this gif is called: Scarborough Crying when he realizes Chris Christie is lying.

I did not hear that DuVernay was not actually directing Black Panther. I am really disappointed.
