amazing.... esp since kiryas joel has the distinction of being one of the poorest places in the country; and where 93% of the residents receive medicaid. which is understandable when the adult males claim to be religious scholars studying the torah that exempts them from the work requirements, and the wives keep popping out those babies ensuring they won’t be leaving the house for outside employment anytime soon.

Also, when they get married, they are only married religiously and not through the state. So the women can file for benefits as single mothers.

Its truly insane what they can get away with. And when you speak out against it you're labeled an anti-Semite.

I had to turn in some papers for an elderly lady at the DSS office in Goshen, there were about a dozen people ahead of me. A Hasidic guy came in and went to the head of the line and demanded service. The clerk told him get in the back. He said he wasn’t waiting with “them". I have had a few encounters with Hasidic men and they always seem demanding and rude. Why?

Yawn. Let’s see more self-aggrandizing posts from Gawker staff about how they shouldn’t lose their sovereignty after fucking everything up. While we’re making demands, how about an official response from Max or Tommy or Jordan, instead of a stray tweet or ungraying. I’m guessing their being quarantined due to an inevitable lawsuit.

Is it me, or does it seems very strange that it was initially reported the chief legal council voted FOR removal, but then “corrected” to say she wanted to keep it up? There is a bunker mentality here that is disturbing, and if the staff is so concerned with journalistic integrity, why does it seem everything is taking a back seat to covering their own asses from legal reprecussions?

Sorry you're bored by this, but for people who live in the areas where this shit is happening, it matters.

Sorry to offend by using this post to spout my rant and I know this is important to many people, but you miss my point. My issue is with Gawker continuing to put up unrelated posts as if nothing has happened and before an official response from those directly involved in the take-down on Thursday. It would be nice for readers to get a little transparency into the reason they published it. Denton’s statement is vague and pays lip service to both sides. All we have is a statement about how upset the staff is about how it was removed. We’re coming up on 48 hours now, and the silence if deafening.

      $250k. That’s a lot of money.

Is that more or less than Gawker made in the last 48 hours by shaming a gay civilian and his family?

And is it more or less than they’re going to lose in the civil suit?

Much, much less. Gawker’s finances aren’t great to begin with. Its days are numbered.

As much as wingnutters handwring and pearlclutch about creeping Sharia, we have a close Hasidic cousin of it already here in places like Kiryas Joel and New Square.

It’s amazing how no one ever seems to mention it. These people are running a religious cult, plain and simple. And they’ve found a way to get federal, state, county and local government to foot the bill for all of it. These fanatics set up shop in some sleepy backwater town and they proceed to run roughshod over it, milking every single resource they can right to the hilt. If they were Muslim, people would be frothing at the mouth over it.

A network of limited liability companies tied to a Kiryas Joel developer has given Governor Andrew Cuomo $250,000 in 2015, more than any other source.

Isn’t that more money than the collective income of Kiryas Joel for its entire history?

I’m sure that the donation was made at the request of his campaign fundraiser, who knows nothing, no-thing about any bills on the governor’s desk.

This is blatant corruption even for New York policics. If Preet Bharara doesn’t investigate this I’ve lost all hope...
