Switching to autonomous cars as the basic mode of transportation will save thousands of lives every year. It will make gun control look like peanuts. Absent a scientific breakthrough to somehow make ground beef and cheese into heart-healthy foods, this will be the most important public health initiative since fighting smoking or introducing antibiotics.

    So don’t knock it.

So logically, we should be making autonomous guns and autonomous beef. That’s my Autonomous America.

Plus, we can consider every car a roving security cam/ telemetry system. Rolling license plate reader? Check. Constant video feeds? Check. It’s one way to get our panopticon.

“The light was green, but traffic was backed up on the far side, so three cars, including ours, braked and came to a stop so as not to get stuck in the middle of the intersection.”

If these cars can grasp what is seemingly an enigmatic concept like not blocking an intersection, I’m all for it! Anybody who has ever driven in the NJ / NYC area can tell you that the sheer number of people who do this, and cause massive traffic snarls in the process, is mind-boggling! I’m sure I’m not exaggerating when I say that people who do this are worse than Hitler...

A few years ago, my girlfriend and I were driving around the busy downtown, this lady blocked an intersection so that 3 lanes couldn’t go. Pretty impressive. So she looks around to see how pissed off we all are. We make eye contact. I get the biggest shit eating grin on my face and give her a thumbs up. She hangs her head in shame.

My only thing against robot cars, is they’ll rob me of moments like that.

I accidentally became one of those drivers yesterday. The light was green, traffic had been moving, I pulled into the intersection and thought I had plenty of time to squeeze in before the light changed. Did not account for off-duty police stopping traffic to let drivers out of the parking garage between my car and the next light. Blocked a single lane and the guy I was blocking laid on the horn the entire time as his screams propelled specks of spittle onto his windshield. After about 60 seconds he realized he could merge into the lane next to him.

Now you tell me, am I worse than hitler?

This is good Kinja. I like this article.

However, I really think until Max or one of the editors addresses that very upsetting article Jordan wrote, we the faithful Gawker readers aren’t going to be able to move on. I’ve been reading Gawker for many years and am really disgusted that we’re outing bisexuals for no reason whatsoever other than the Reddit feud/clickbait. I’m def bummed out.

One day, when I am among the last human slaves toiling away in one of Skynet’s automated factories, I will tell the young ones it all began on this day.

I don’t get the sarcasm. The Google car got rear-ended while it was stopped in traffic. You’re never at fault when you get rear-ended. It’s nearly certain that this technology will be safer than human drivers.

haha imagine getting into an accident with one of these cars and you get out to exchange insurance information and you are like “oh..right....uhhhhh” I mean i’m sure they have contact information on them, it’s just a funny thought.

Just take a sharpie and write your insurance info on the damaged panel. They’re going to have to repaint it anyway, right?

Yes. Our braking of the motion. Was. Natural. The surrounding mass that .was behind the space that “we, the coalition.” Were occupying. Is at. Error. Bleep! Bloop! Blop! Meat space.
