I live in the area just around DC, which thankfully seems to be relatively slur-free, and therefore just a fuck-bitch-shit zone.

I like the word 'cunt' though, and I'm surprised to not have caused a blip in the system by myself through egregious overuse.

Yeah, I use cunt more than anything else too.

Quite disappointed with the lack of cunt usage in my area.

Shoutout to me, the only darn person in southwest Florida saying “darn” a lot. Fake cuss words are funnier, so fudge you buttheads.

I say “golly” sometimes, and my husband finds it hilarious. “Golly-gee-willikers” <- I do not say this. It’s his retort to my Golly.

biggest surprise here as well. The only part that made any such sense was the usage on the Californian coast

Maybe the people who use it down there are less likely to be on Twitter?

Or maybe many of them just can’t spell it.

I was gonna reply to your original comment, and then you changed it to this, so I’m just gonna say this: “shit, cunt, fuck your damn comment. We use all the motherfucking foul language in the Midwest, so none of it sticks out, bitch. Why you gotta be a gosh darn asshole about it? Fuck.” There, I think that’s everything from the list...scheissekopf.

I can already see numerous methodological problems along these lines. For example, the failure to search specifically for “sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit” almost certainly understates the “shit” results for West Baltimore specifically and Maryland generally.

      geotagged data from Twitter

every damn time with the twitter data!

this is interesting but analyzing Twitter (esp geotagged tweets!) is not in any way indicative of common *speech*

first, most people don’t use twitter

2nd, many people who cuss in real life do not cuss using twitter (or as often)

3rd, this study *must* use geotagged tweets, which further sub-divides the set of data on a completely irrelevant factor that ruins any chance of this data being representative

again...interesting study...let’s just say “How people on Twitter cuss” instead of stretching the science beyond what it says

we need to get research reports right...it’s a scientific literacy issue and it’s litterally killing the planet (climate change deniers flourish in a climate where research isn’t properly analyzed and reported)

Exactly what I was coming here to say. Even among the subset of Twitter users, there’s probably going to be considerable bias toward milder swearing (“damn” instead of “fucking”, etc) amongst people trying to remain semi-respectable on Twitter. And geotagging tells you where the tweet originated but nothing about where the person tweeting lives...people go on vacation, travel for work, etc.

I love hearing my Brother in law’s family say Ayuh, to everything. Never seen a cross word out of em. EVERY ANSWER to every situation is “Ayuh” with a slight change in tone.
