I am an immune-compromised person who cannot take certain vaccines. People not vaccinating their kids are putting people like me in fucking danger. I catch every little bug that goes around, and things can get ugly really fast for me. Hospitals are awful, because despite me needing to be in them from time to time, I’ve contracted nosocomial infections on a couple of instances. Me getting the measles, mumps, pertussis or the flu could easily fucking kill me with all of the health issues I have. It’s not just about their kids, it’s a public safety issue.

My husband has advanced MS. He was also a doctor, I’m a nurse. I do hold my breath a bit every time our children receive a vaccination but we’ve never discussed to even delay the schedule of vaccines. I’ve worked with every pediatrician in our town and every single one of them have vaccinated their children. I get so angry when people throw up non evidenced based, non researched based medical crap. Next up, let's discuss the snake oil called Essential Oils...

  My daughter also got hers at 12 months. She had a fever for two days and woke up screaming about 6 times, having to be held until she calmed down. It was fucking miserable, but necessary. And you know what? It made me hate anti vaxxers more because they get to opt out of that experience because of bullshit reasons.

I'm practically in tears with frustration by the end of every article like this. I just can't understand why you wouldn't protect your child. Does everyone of these people have to watch their dad live his life crippled by polio to get it? Or watch him die of influenza? I was provacccine my whole life(shout it to my hero Joseph Salk)....I'm just...without words.

  I was born five years before the Dr. Salk’s vaccine was available. My mother feared polio above all other “children’s” diseases because her brother died at 16 due to polio. When the vaccine became available she celebrated. She got us vaccinated as soon as she could and told us how lucky we were not to ever have to fear polio. Even as a little girl I understood what a gift this vaccine was, after all I had a preschool classmate who wore heavy leg braces and had to drag herself around the classroom. Dr. Salk’s work made my mother so very happy and eliminated her greatest fear for her children. The anti-vaxxers suffer from a failure of imagination - must you actually see the effects of polio before you understand the devastation caused before the vaccine? Believe me, if you experienced those now preventable diseases as a child you would never skip a vaccination for your child. And measles? My sister was so sick she believed she saw spiders crawling up our bedroom walls.
