  I wonder what good it would have done? If what this guy is saying is true then the board didn’t get rid of her because of this (that is if she was indeed fired). They would have already known. She went because of all the turmoil and if this is true she was pushed out because she was sacrificed so that the board could make it seem that they were appeasing the mob.

Everyone wins.

Except maybe Ellen Pao. I suppose, in a sense, that anyone who no longer works at reddit is a winner. But if Yishan is correct, Ellen didn’t fire Victoria and she did stick up for the free-speech contortionists and she had to go because the people who were mad about Victoria being fired and about any infringement on contortions of free speech wanted her out. Normally, you have to go back to the days of Clinkle to find so much up-fuckedness in one place at one time.

  With Reddit, you have this rather small community full of venomous assholes, who are constantly theorizing about how administrators are trying to take away what they consider to be their “free speech” gravy train. But the thing is, their conspiracy theories are based on utter fucking BS, and colored at all times by their prevailing biases which, in the case of Pao, adds up to a double whammy of sexism and racism. They just assumed, with no basis whatsoever, that Pao was their worst enemy, because hell, she’s a woman who had the gall to file a legitimate discrimination lawsuit against a former employer, and she’s wunna them Chaineez to boot (cue hilarious “Chairman Pao” jokes).
  
  I’m a rather new Reddit user, and I’m going to continue to use the site because I genuinely think there’s legit value to the subreddits I’m part of, and that the overall project of the site is excellent. But I can’t wait for this select subcommunity of babies—who are far fewer in actual number than their relative loudness implies—to make their great exit. Most people on Reddit don’t give a shit about these people’s “concerns” and would be either happy or at worst ambivalent about seeing them leave.

Half of the stuff I used to go to Reddit for now is easily accessible from smaller websites that have mods who can ban evil content because it’s their website and they’re only beholden to those who have come specifically for Tomato planting or shelf making or whatever that smaller niche site is targeting. I no longer have to go to a site that has been pressured by its success to try to be all things to all people and has allowed it’s overly permissive, utopian ideal corrupted by people who have to fap to the most disgusted, privacy invasive shit imaginable.

Reddit’s days are numbered. It’s going the way of the Dodo, MySpace, Netscape Navigator and AOL email. It’s 2000-2001 era WCW when Vince Russo took over. It’s miserable now.

After seeing what one of my favorite places on the internet has become, I say good riddance.
