I need to show ID to buy certain over the counter cold medication, but not for ammunition?

I need to have insurance before I buy a car, but not a gun?

I need to pass a driver’s test before I can drive, but I do not need training for gun ownership?

You do need to be able to provide ID for ammunition sales, even in comparatively lawless states like Wyoming. 18 for rifle cartridges and shotgun shells, 21 for pistol cartidges.

Actually in NYS if you are purchasing handgun ammunition you have to show your NYS issued handgun permit. The permit lists the handguns you own (at least it does in nassau county issued permits). They will check the ammunition you are purchasing against the handguns you own. Showing ID and being background checked on site for rifle ammunition sales is a good idea. I personally think having to pass written exam and practical safety test for firearm ownership is really good idea too.

Gun control will never really happen in this country. If 20 first graders being shot execution style in an elementary school didn’t lead to any serious reform, nothing will.

Part of that is because the people asking for gun control don't tend to ask for reasonable, sensible things. Though also that so many people are so completely against reasonable, sensible things (like universal background checks and safety training).

In Pennsylvania, there are beer distributors. They can’t sell you any fewer than 24 beers at once. There are also bars. They can’t sell you more than 12 beers at once. Bars also have to serve food of some kind. Seems kind of arbitrary.

All of this regulation on alcohol. But no matter what state you live in, you can by whatever quantity of whatever type of ammunition your tiny ego needs to feel safe in an unsure world.

What a strange system we have. What strange priorities we have.

I just think it’s funny how puritanical overreach only makes it to booze, and not to high capacity magazines.

I will say this: I spent the Fourth of July weekend in upstate NY, and almost every private home in the area had “Repeal The Safe Act” signs on their front lawns.

I’m originally from upstate NY and parts of it have more in common with rural Georgia than any east coast proclivities.

It must be tough to be a Democratic governor in a purple state like New York.

It’s only purple because Cuomo has decided to side with renegade Dems in Albany and is working to solidify gerrymandered districts for Republicans.

That makes perfect sense. Unlike guns, ammo is much more plentiful and if you shoot a lot you need a lot of it- that means a large database tracking at least an order of magnitude more information than just gun sales, and that’s not even considering that ammo is not really trackable like guns- no serial numbers, etc.
Of course obvious, practical problems like this are easily overlooked when you’re waging an ideological war, but I digress.

Cuomo is trolling the media and he’s winning. There’s plenty of fucking nutcases upstate who are thrilled to see shit like this posted even if for ridicule.

Why does Andrew Cuomo still call himself a Democrat? Mario Cuomo must be spinning in his grave.
