    And in other news:

Toledo Municipal Court Judge C. Allen McConnell issued a statement Wednesday on his refusal to perform marry a same-sex couple earlier this week.

McConnel says he declined to perform the marriage based on his “personal and Christian beliefs.”

The lesbian couple went to the courthouse Monday and paid for both a marriage license and a wedding ceremony. McConnell was the duty judge and would typically be the judge to perform the ceremony. But he refused.

The couple was married by a another court judge. In the statement, McConnell apologized to the couple for the delay and wished them the best.

To be honest, if a judge thinks my marriage is wrong I don’t really want them performing the ceremony anyhow.

A valid personal choice, but a Judge sitting in his or her seat of office does not function as an individual. Their personal or religious objections are supposed to be set aside in favor of the rule of law. The rule of law states that that couple had the same rights to marriage as any other.

He refused to perform his duties as a State employee; he should be reprimanded at the least, if not removed from office entirely.

How about undocumented immigrants will obey the law when government officials denying gay marriage applications do? Seems fair.

We have the right, too, as a Christian, she feels, not to issue this.

Sounds like someone doesn’t understand the Supreme Court’s ruling, or how to formulate a sentence.

Davis is just doin’ her thing:

The American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky filed a lawsuit Thursday on behalf of four couples who were denied marriage licenses by the Rowan County clerk in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s historic decision legalizing same-sex marriages.

Democrat Kim Davis is among a handful of clerks who have refused to grant licenses to any couples in order to avoid handing them out to gays and lesbians. The suit alleges four couples in Rowan — two same-sex and two straight — who have sought marriage licenses are having their 14th Amendment rights violated as a result.

What is it with these dingbats that they cannot see the difference between a court-based marriage and a church based wedding?

Marriage was merged into civil systems from religious ceremonies (i do believe).

Why cant these idiot civil servants see the difference? Issuing a marriage license in the court is not giving the couple god’s blessing. its giving them the civil/legal rights they are entitled to.

Isn’t she elected? Can she be fired? Where’s the mayor in all this? Does he or she have the power to remove this homophobic “Christian” from office?

When you think about it, there absolutely should be a special kind of hell for those who cloak their bigotry in the name of Christianity. How deliciously ironic that would be.

Good luck getting people to listen to you. That camp has long since convinced itself that the so-called separation of church and state is a myth that literally does not exist.

I work for a bank and have to do shit that offends my sensebilities every so often but I still manage to do my damn job. People who use religion as an out are morons and should be fired fined and sued. Especially someone who MADE THE CHOICE TO CONCIOUSLY BREAK THE LAW!

I’m actually kind of enjoying this, because it’s like garbage time in a sports game: the losing team might throw a couple of cheap shots but it’s because they’ve been blown out and they know it. It’s unfortunate that there will be delays in some people getting their licenses, but on the other hand it’s an opportunity to unseat all of these backward fuckfaces by force (of litigation). They might have to be dragged kicking and screaming, but they will be dragged.

This reminds me of what happened in the 60s when blacks started trying to register to vote in the South after the Civil Rights Act. Very often they would get physically thrown out of the clerk’s office or find themselves arrested for “disturbing the peace.”

So video-recording this was maybe not a bad idea.

One other thing. Does she ask people whether they are divorcees before issuing a marriage license?

Because the Bible has a whole lot more to say about divorce, namely that, unless your spouse leaves you and is unwilling to reconcile, that no legal document saying you are divorced actually makes the divorce real. By allowing divorcees to marry, she’s in much more direct and clear violation of her Christian beliefs than she is by letting the gays get married.

I’d say that it’s really hard to over-emphasize this point when people are resisting this based on their “Christianity”. I live in a very conservative part of the country and pointing this out has been a good wedge for me in conversations with your run-of-the-mill conservative Evangelical Christian. It helps that plenty of them have been divorced and remarried, and would rather not spend too much time dwelling on exactly what the Bible has to say about when divorce is or is not okey-dokey.

Lots of people might challenge whether or not the Bible actually says homosexuality is immoral in a discussion, but I think a better way to approach it with them is to point out that our country has not traditionally used a Biblical test for the issuance of marriage licenses.

NOTES FROM SHIT THAT SHOULD HAVE STAYED IN THE GRAYS:

because Progressives have no problem following laws that are fundamentally immoral.

Wait...fundamentally immoral? Whose fundamentals are we talking about here? In the case of multiple sets of fundamentals coming to agreement, which gets to claim the crown of “most moral?” Who is the arbiter? If human, can I get a statement? If they’re ethereal, can I get some kind of a sign that they actually give a fuck?
