      To be fair, this isn’t the official Catholic Church or anything, they’re affiliated with Bill Donahue and The Catholic League. Their website has articles defending the confederate flag and calling the Pope a marxist.

      Pretty sure the latter is against the rules for the official blogs.

      The Catholic Church can still be pretty big dicks though, so that’s legit.

      Thanks for the clarification. I was deep into the Catholic thing for years - school, altar boy, the whole nine yards - so I didn’t see much in this video that didn’t sound familiar or like something I wouldn’t have heard in school/church when I was going.

      I usually suggest to people who don’t get this that they should test out their freedom of speech by telling their boss to go fuck her/himself when they get to work tomorrow. And then I remind them that, just like with the second amendment, if you don’t use your first amendment rights (by telling your boss to go fuck him/herself) you lose that right.

      I don’t think it’s confined to American Christians. British Christians and right-wing papers (like the Daily Mail) LOVE to harp on about how “the culture of political correctness” is oppressing them and stopping good British Christians from exercising their rights, like preventing gay couples from staying in their bed & breakfasts or something...

    The last gasp of a moribund ideology; let’s not forget that the majority of American Catholics polled were resoundingly in favor of gay marriage, and that more than a few traditionally Catholic nations have gay marriage themselves now. Hell, Ireland voted for it!

    How “courageous” it must be to come out against something that doesn’t apply to you, but some people just can’t feel good about themselves unless they’re beating down someone else. Mimicing/mocking the “It’s Get Better” videos is certainly no accident.

      It’s not been terribly difficult to convince Catholics/Christians that gay marriage doesn’t take away from straight marriage, especially since nothing forces religions to perform anything they don’t want to, but it’s harder to convince these same people that abortion is not murder. Although the “culture warriors” tried to tie the two issues together, they’ve ultimately proven to be separate.

    Nothing strengthens a friendship more than viewing your friends as second-class citizens and seeking to deny them basic human rights because their biological make-up doesn’t comport with your delightfully medieval views on the nature of “sin”.
