So has anyone found out what kind of system they are running? I’d assume it has nothing to do with Windows or Outlook.

Perhaps their emails are archived on Hillary Clinton’s server.

While many requests regarding this incident, including yours, are voluminous, in no way would the city presume to charge such an exorbitant fee.

...Especially if we’d known our original response was going to be published.

Now: imagine you live in Texas, and you pay the city for public utilities.

Imagine they require a $200 deposit, and when you don’t get it back from your last residence when you move, imagine being asked to pay it again to establish service at your new residence.

Now, imagine how much it costs to ask them to look up your “archived” account documents to verify that they in fact owe you $200 (or at least you don’t owe them another $200.)

Did you guess over $200? You did! WELCOME TO TEXAS!

Not sure about all the cities here but where I live in Texas we pay a private company for those “public” utilities because Murica or freedom or some shit like that.

Yeah Hammond really should have paid that guy more. Nedry was running the whole system BY HIMSELF! So much for sparing no expense.

I don’t blame people for their mistakes, Belle Starr. But I do expect them to pay for them.

The problem isn’t that the emails are hard to convert, it’s that they only pay their programmer 57k a year so they’re not really working hard at getting it done.

    Bullshit.

They’re not sorry for sending it.

They’re sorry for getting called out on it.

It is technically plausible that they erroneously included their internal cost estimate in response. It is unbelievably probable that they purposefully included a newly created external cost estimate to scare you off.

The number quoted to you as a cost estimate for your records request is not accurate. We sincerely apologize for the misinformation and the ensuing confusion, and we agree that the cost of more than $79,000 is at best implausible.

They probably added an extra zero as a typo and the true cost is a bargain at $7,900.

I’m betting the error goes the other way and it’s going to end up at $790,000. We’ll see who wins ‘closest without going over.’

I suggest you submit a public records request for the town’s billing records from the law firm that drafted the initial letter. What the hell are they being paid for?
