As someone who will use the men’s bathroom when the line for the women’s is too long I can say with certainty that public facilities for either sex are pretty much equally disgusting. Let’s do away with bathroom gender an focus on a public campaign to shame people who pee all over the seat.

Can someone please explain this obsession about trans people and what bathrooms they use? I cannot, for the love of the little baby Jesus, figure out why this has suddenly become a thing. News flash, folks: trans people have existed, and have been using whateverthefuck bathroom they deem appropriate since the beginning of time.

And personally, as a cisgender person myself, if the ladies’ room is occupied and the men’s room is vacant, I have never seen any problem with using the men’s. Go ahead and arrest me.

It’s all in the idea of doing whatever possible to stigmatize a state of being that doesn’t harm others, but whose merest existence makes some people go “Ewww...”.

I don’t quite get it either. I’ve always been under the impression that the main reason for gender-separated bathrooms was less a matter of protecting people than of making the most efficient use of wall space.

I will never understand the sheer audacity it takes to ask someone for details about their genitalia. Everything about that line of questioning speaks to the interviewer’s belief, likely subconscious, that the subject of their questioning is some sort of specimen that needs to be poked and examined like an animal on display or a freak in a circus, not a living, feeling person.

You’d never hear them asking Kristen Bell about the shape of her labia or Selena Gomez about the state of her bikini wax. Because they are cisgender women whose dignity needs to respected.

I’m going to start going up to cis men and be like, “if you don’t show me your dick then I must assume you’re not actually a man sorry I don’t make the rules”

Actually, i kind of agree with that weather man, I think it’s reasonable logic: Aren’t they just women at that point? (I assume men in the opposite case)

Yes, some of us are, or aspire to be.

I’m one of them. I don’t want to be labeled a transwoman for the rest of my life, I just want to be a woman. To me, transwoman is what it says, its a transitionary term between what I physically was, and becoming what i am inside on the outside (letting it out). It’s not what I am, it’s where I’m going.

Though keep in mind, I plan to go all the way... once i... figure out how to pay for a 27k$ surgery bill..... and that isn’t counting a 2 week stay on the west coast with my wife who is required to be there (Though I wouldn’t want her anywhere else anyway^^), and the money to cover earnings lost while there. Crazy costs just to be who you are...

But anyway, overall i like his response^^
Downside is, some of the people who really need to listen to him, don’t believe in the internet lol. But they’d likely believe anything mike huckabee said by default. You know, the old white republican paranoia rule.

That was my initial takeaway from his twitchy little outburst. Why must we say Trans-anythingatall? If someone presents as a woman, are they not simply a woman?

I understand why we made the term, but i don’t find it accurate.

Me personally, i’m a woman, that’s all I want to be. Not a trans-cis-whatever else.

But woman doesn’t technically fit those who don’t identify as a woman or a man. Some people like to be in between or in a spectrum they’ve designed around who they are. So I understand the initial effort but I think by finding so many labels to describe something is more of a problem, woman fits me, and others, but not all, so why don’t we let them pick a term they feel comfortable with rather then labeling a whole lot of people who don’t want that term?

Might make it confusing a I guess, but few things in life are simple to explain.

Semi-related note on these “you must be this gender to enter this bath gender specific bathroom” laws. Does this law cover everyone? Like how about those mothers who have to take their toddler sons into the bathroom with them? Or fathers who has to take their toddler daughters into the bathroom with them? Do these laws now mean they would have to leave their kid outside? I know it sounds silly but it doesn’t seem there is an age limit to these laws. And it could be easily abused.

WOMAN: I’m sorry. You are going to leave your son outside. This is a female only bathroom.

MOTHER: He’s six months and a asleep in his bassinet.

WOMAN: Still, he is a boy. And the law is the law.

Or, what if you are in a small establishment and one of the toilets is broken, or one set is being cleaned?

Even for a law that is clearly out to discriminate against vulnerable people (do legislators in Arizona have nothing better to do?), just on a day to day level, it is stupid and unworkable.

Don’t forget the disabled who have caretakers of the opposite sex. There was a young man in the ladies’ room at my local mall a few months ago because he had physical and mental issues and needed help, and the person helping him was a woman. Nobody much cared, not like he was in a stall with them, just the caretaker. But I remembered the various bathroom bills and it made me think about it.

6 months for using the wrong bathroom? I get your prison industrial complex needs more nonviolent criminals to keep the profits high, but that is fucked up even for America.

That was great but would have also been great if he mentioned that in 32+ States you can be fired for being Transgender.
