So, I’m dumb at sports and I’ve always wondered:

What exactly are the Globetrotters? Like, I get that it’s an exhibition team but what does that mean? Is it that they play local teams but it’s just for fun? My understanding of the Globetrotters comes entirely from vaguely remembered Scooby Doo episodes and Futurama appearances.

Exactly, they’re just for fun. They get pros to play along into their funny antics, and dazzle crowds with sweet trick shots and none of it “counts.”

My grandfather used to take my two sisters and I to see the Globetrotters whenever they were in town. It was our “thing”. No Grandmom, no parents. Just the four of us. *great memory*

What a lovely “thing,” and so wonderful that you & your sisters got to have a special thing with your grandfather. I remember my older brothers taking me see the Globetrotters when I was little*. It was really fun! The wide-eyed little girl in me is so excited for Mo’ne. I just continue to be in awe of her.

          * I think the only other thing I did with just my bros (no parentals) was go see a midnight showing of Dick Tracy. And be their DD when I got my license but was still too young to drink. Mem’ries. :)

All she needs to do now is save the Loony Toons from alien space slavery and she's basically Michael Jordan.

I know the Globetrotters’ CEO. He’s a great guy, and they’re a fantastic organization. Way to go!

This gives me a glimmer of hope, because I detested their staff I dealt with. The promoter was horribly inept at his job, like painfully, to the point I’m not even sure how he stayed employed.

Fun fact: my uncle was on the opposing team that always played the Harlem Globetrotters, The Wizards. They travel all over the world and the Wizards always had to play “bad” as they weren’t allowed to win. He’s gone now but he was one of the kindest, funniest and tallest men I've ever known. :)

I am super glad that she’s working towards her dreams of pro basketball, and can’t wait to see what she does. At the same time, baseball is the only sport I care about and I’m a little sad cause I was hoping to see her on the mound one day.
