I’ll take any victories we can get! Especially when it comes to my beloved IUD.

Speaking of victories, I’ve now resorted to begging for one of my own: Please Ungray Me, Anna!

I was approved, then kinja and gray, then I thought (possibly erroneously) I was un-gray, now I'm definitely gray (maybe again?) my point is, I feel your pain. :(

I wonder if any of those “religious” institutions whined about the 2 page form to be a non-profit religious institution required by the IRS.

My very cynical father has a theory about all of this: the Catholic Church cannot convince its own parishioners to comply with its bizarre and medieval positions on abortion (Catholic women are about 30% more likely to seek abortions than Protestant women) and contraception (98% of Catholic women have used birth control other than rhythm), so it will do what it can to force them to comply by political means. He's 65, an executive at the local Dem club, and the son of a Dem politician. It's clear where the cynicism comes from.

I agree with your cynical Dad. If Catholics actually observed these rules, I think there would be less political energy to spend on forcing them on society at large. All the Catholics would be too tired from raising and providing for 8 children!

The fact that any issue related to birth control is still being litigated just really fucking annoys me. ALMOST EVERYONE USES BIRTH CONTROL. Seriously, no matter what religious affiliation people have, how many families do we see with 10 kids? Because before birth control was invented /legal/widely available there were lots

... the ruling itself was written by Justice Jerry Edwin Smith, who was appointed by Ronald Reagan.

I haven’t read the linked Wikipedia page, but it’s not surprising to me that this judge was appointed by Reagan and he holds realistic views on how the law should be applied. As I’m sure most of us are aware, Reagan was much less conservative than the GOP is now.

It is so baffling that in 25ish years the Republican Party has taken such a huge shift to the right. Almost all Republicans hold Reagan in such high regard and yet they continually pass laws that he would have been against.

I definitely blame the Tea Party but the shift had been happening since GWB took office. My dad is a die hard Republican & Reagan lover, he was supporting the Tea Party for a hot minute and when I pointed out Reagan would be against all that bullshit he nearly had a stroke. I love fucking with him sometimes.

Fill out a 2 page form, or file a lawsuit? Obviously the second option is way more practical, inexpensive, and less time-consuming.

I almost enjoy that they’re so litigious. It makes me clear where I shouldn’t donate or spend my money. If they just filled out the form, it wouldn’t make the news!

Oh sure, I could probably find it elsewhere, but this way is so much more practical and less time consuming. For me.

Here’s another nice bit of news, though it’s kind of old. In my state (Idaho), a super-fast lightning anti-abortion bill was getting voted on without any warning whatsoever and without input from people at all a few years ago. Idaho tends to be pretty goddamned conservative, but even by those standards it was a draconian bill. THE WIVES OF THE REPUBLICAN LEGISLATORS told them to fucking drop it. And they did. I don’t think it made the news nationally, but it was really damned surprising to me.
