That bastard didn’t even give any thought to how hearing the n-word might make white audiences feel.

“I don’t see any real action taken until the American public feels a sufficient sense of urgency,” Obama added. “If you don’t have that kind of public and voter pressure, it’s not going to change from the inside.”

If that didn’t happen after Sandy Hook then it just won’t happen anytime soon. It isn’t just people not wanting to give up guns. It’s the idea of having to really examine an issue in our society that people can’t take.

It’s a smoke screen. The media freaks out because it doesn’t want to discuss the real issues: White Supremacy - Structural and Institutional Racism, Implicit Bias etc.

These issues need to be addressed. If they aren’t the United States will become an Apartheid state like Rhodesia & South Africa, when White Americans become the plurality and eventually the minority. Just like Roof, “TheLastRhodesian” wants.

The real issue of Charleston or the real issue of Sandy Hook? They have elements in common, they have elements that make them rather different. We need to talk about all of them, but whereas racism is clearly central to the Charleston shooting, it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with Sandy Hook (or Columbine or ....).

On the other hand, the media in the form of television doesn’t really do a very good job of discussing the “real issues” related to gun control either, though it is sometimes hard to blame it, given the extremely ambivalent relationship that the USA and its citizens and its laws have with guns.

We are clearly talking about Charleston here, being that this post is entitled “Obama Says N-Word While Decrying Racism, News Media Freaks”

I do agree with you that the media does not wish to address the problem of gun violence in this country. Those who want to push for gun control should do that. I will push for the destruction of White Supremacy.

Honestly I feel like calling it the n-word is childish — what, like our brains will break if someone says the word while discussing why we shouldn’t say it? But I’m white so it’s not my decision to make. Obama, however, isn’t, and is also president, and should therefore say whatever the fuck he wants.

Also, “s somewhat absent father” is about the kindest way of describing a dude who checked out when his son was a toddler and only saw him once again before he died that I have ever read. Barack Obama Sr. no doubt had many excellent qualities, but he wasn’t a good father — at least not to his American-born son.

IDK I call it the n-word because I just can’t bring myself to say it ever, in any context. I would rather sound childish than hateful.

Dude, I’m not in this to make people say words they don’t want to say. I personally can’t even listen to songs where the word’s in the lyrics a lot because it bugs me that much. (I will type it out when I absolutely have to use it, but that rarely happens.) But it’s one thing for you or I to say the word makes us uncomfortable, and another for reporters to clutch their pearls because the president doesn’t mince words.

Anyone watch Maron on IFC? There was just an episode about him not having enough POC as guests on his show. Coincidence? Well, it probably is.

Every time he has a black comedian on they seem to discuss this. If I’m remembering right, he even talked to Chris Rock about it.

That’s true. So much of his show feels so familiar just from being a fan of his podcast. Almost like I’ve seen it before.
