Why did it have to come from THIS white dude? This is a case of loving the message but thinking the messenger is a smarmy twat. I’ve thought that since he did his little bit shaming those who were in bad enough financial straits to have to use a payday loan like I was. It sure is easy to mock desperate people when you shit money isn’t it?

I did not think he was shaming the people who had to sue, but was shaming the companies.

Women are more afraid in general, which is why women fear assault more than men, even though men are far more likely to experience it. And women fear internet harassment more, even though again, men are far more likely to experience it.

The #1 comment on gizmodo is basically: Men get Harrassed too! There are a lot of differing opinions, but some of those (not grey) comments are rough.

Huh... isn’t that what equality is though? Talking about the needs of both men and women? Talking about how to improve life for everyone? You guys spout equality but it is so very obviously about Women being supreme and men being nothing.

Someone claimed that nobody was concerned about threats made against men or violence against men. I wasn’t sure whether I should laugh or weep at that...

My husband got really freaked out when he saw what some MRA types wrote to me after I commented on an editorial about domestic violence. Of course he wanted me to stop commenting about stuff online, so I had to do the whole “I will not be silenced” speech. But seriously, make that shit a crime already.

My father does the same fucking thing. Of course when I disagree with his views which are just barely veiled misogyny, I'm attacking him and he's entitled to his views. He's entitled, but I don't think he understands the difference between a disagreement and an attack 😡

I’ve had some very vile and disturbing things said to me recently on Gawker and Salon due to some very benign discussions...not controversial topics at all. My husband said I should stop participating in online discussions because of this. Hard to believe that the solution was I stop talking...I mean, really? Didn’t take long before he really regretted that suggestion.

This is incredibly satisfying. I remember a comment on one of the Last Week Tonight videos (I know, I know, never read the comments) was a bunch of bros asking for an exposé on “feminist propaganda”. It bothered me that a person could enjoy John Oliver’s show, appreciate the leanings the show has in highlighting inequality and still be so obtuse and hateful.

The comments on this clip are going to be grrrreaaat.

It would be awesome if he responded to that by actually doing a segment on “feminist propaganda” in which he mocks all of the idiots who consider the idea that women are human beings deserving of equal rights to be propaganda.

A bit off topic, but I find it rather awesome and oddly perfect that Jon Oliver is married to an American woman who was a trauma nurse (surgeon?) in Iraq and that they met at the Republican National Convention. Oliver is a staunch liberal but he is incredibly respectful to men and women in uniform and he has a way of calling out hypocrisy on all sides. No sacred cows for him to protect.

    A) Note to self: check to see if Last Week Tonight is on Hulu so I can actually watch it on the reg

    B) The most satisfying part is that the smarmy guy in the parody ad who wants to show naked pictures of his wife to EVERYONE looks an awful lot like Bob Saget.

HBOGo. But, as noted, nearly all the meaty bits get posted to their youtube channel by the Monday after. Oh, and the actors in the parody ad were Rob Huebel and Colin Hanks.
