Agreed, it’s a valid business decision to accept risk. The big assumption of course is that you are not a total dumbass at assessing risk.

Who taught this guy risk management?

...and flags an infamously dismissive remark by former IT chief Jason Spaltro:

Even worse, Spaltro was in Executive Director of Information Security, not IT. Security was his whole job. And, while he may have been replaced, I’m not sure he doesn’t still hold that position. This lawsuit doesn’t refer to him as a ‘former’ Sony employee.

This is exactly how I described how this happened. The script never changes.

This is such GROSS negligence, considering the previous history of the Sony PSN hacks. The damages should devastate Sony and scare the bejesus out of any and every industry who sees themselves as having employed anything slightly resembling Sony’s laissez-faire policy of network security and inspire speedy and thorough change.

Considering how many people’s records were vacuumed by the hackers and Sony’s jaw-dropping cluelessness at IT security; I could see the awarded damages being so huge, it bankrupts Sony. And they should be bankrupted. That way other companies will learn that if you don’t safeguard people’s data, you’re toast.

It’s the only way they’ll learn—they are consequences to stupid stupid stupid decisions.

The problem is that (as we learned from the leaked emails) film execs are not the brightest of bulbs.

And then Disney can bail them out by buying the rights to the Spiderman movie franchise and he can join the MCU where he belongs!

Here is how class actions work. Each member of the class will get two free tickets to the next Adam Sandler movie. The class action attorneys will make $25 million dollars. Yay?
