I see myself as transcorporeal. This physical form is just an affectation of biological circumstance. I really identify as a ghost.

Since I was 5 I’ve identified as the Batman. It doesn’t matter that I’m a 30 something black male. People should respect my identity and address me as Batman.

Echoing what was said in Gawker, there’s apparently some sort of federal law that says whenever Rachel Dolezal is mentioned, someone has to bring up gay and transgendered people.

Also, besides dismissing, this is a genius way to handle trolls.

Using the term ‘transracial’ for this is super annoying, because the term ALREADY means something and it’s not what it’s being used for here. I’ve come across it in regards to transracial adoptions, which refers to when a child is adopted into a family of a different race. This is actually a really important issue for these individuals, so I hate that the term is getting confused with this malarkey.

Oh sure, all these people are talking about how she was brave for coming out as transracial, but when I came out as otherkin because I am a dragon deep inside me, people called me a furry nutjob. YOU CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS, SOCIETY.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going off to practice breathing fire. I almost have it down.

Yes. This is really the only appropriate reaction for everyone to have to this story.

In other news, looking at the “Before” and “After” photo, if that look wasn’t in service to all of this weirdness, it would actually be a pretty good look for her.

Right?! I really would love to have those long blond weave braids, like, NOW, but everyone would either laugh at me or be a bit angry about it, and I can see clearly why. But they’re gorgeous! UGH.

I keep looking at pictures of her and some of them I’m like “How could anyone not know she wasn’t black?” and others it’s “Yeah, I would be fooled if I saw her in real life, too”.

It’s kind of like how my car is either dark blue or purple depending on how bright it is outside, if it’s in the shade, if it’s wet or dry, along with the angle of the sun’s position in the sky.

To be fair, the batshit side of Tumblr really isn’t driving this whole “transracial” thing.... At the moment, they’re too busy accusing John Green (he of “The Fault in Our Stars” fame) of being a pedophile to focus on anything else.

Genuine Question (not a troll I promise!)

I *know* that the transracial/transgender argument is falsely equating two things that are not the same - but other than my general feelings of “They’re just not the same! Dressing up as black is not the same as transitioning to a different gender!”, I don’t have a much more sophisticated argument than that.

Can someone who has thought this through already help me? Give me the argument cliff notes?

The term transracial already refers to someone who was raised by or in a different racial background - usually as it pertains to interracial adoptions. So someone who is black but was raised by white parents can discuss transracial identity (or the other way around, though that is far more rare unfortunately) - as their experience is often very different from that of a white child being adopted by white parents etc. This idea that you can dress up as black and call yourself ‘transracial’ is HUGELY degrading to the very real experiences of many adoptees for whom the term means something deeply personal and frequently difficult.

That’s just my take on it though, someone else may have a better explanation.

I can’t stop thinking of the movie Soul Man. Comedy Central played it over and over again in lieu of decent programming, and now I just see this whenever the story comes up:

      And I sigh in pain.
