      Technically, a martyr is anyone who dies for their values, religious or otherwise. It seems to be the bog standard way to refer to casualties of war in that part of the world, regardless of which side you’re on.

      It’s worth remembering that “martyrdom” means different things in Islam versus Christianity.

      Islam views a martyr as a man or woman who dies while conducting jihad, whether on or off the battlefield (see greater jihad and lesser jihad).

    I’ll hand it to him: We have millions of short minded idiots who want to send our young men and women overseas to die in a city they couldn’t even fathom living in for a long period of time.

    This is all in the name of the all-encompassing and purposefully vague bullshit mission of “protecting freedom” or “fighting them over there before we have to fight them here”.

    Broomfield went out and fucking did that shit himself.

      “Getting shit done” seems to be the mindset of many of the Westerners who join the YPG. Sure, some may have less than pure motivations (see the spat between Jordan Matson and actor Michael Enright, god knows wtf is going on there), but the majority of them seem to be people who just want to help the Kurds. I have great respect for them.

        That picture with the dartboard gives the impression of a man who was seeking to do good for the Kurdish people. I hope he was seeking something positive like that, I hope he succeeded, and I hope he is/was at peace.
