New Zealand is a great country. They have two official languages, English and Maori (the indigenous culture). They were the first country in the world to give women the vote. This does not surprise me. The anti-abortion protests will be ignored and care for women will get easier and safer.

Question - as you seem to know more about NZ than I- is abortion still illegal there unless the health of the mother is at risk or the foetus is deemed unviable? I read that on Wikipedia but was surprised by that factoid.

Yep. But it's accepted by those providing abortions that any unwanted pregnancy is a risk to a woman's health. So it's criminal, but it's also free and available (although you have to wait a long time) because all these doctors believe that abortion should be freely available.

This is a fantastic right step. However, New Zealand has a long way to go.

Women do not have a right to an abortion in New Zealand unless their life is in danger or the fetus will not survive the pregnancy. If they obtain an abortion for any other reason, they can be subject to criminal prosecution. After 12 weeks an abortion has to be done at a licensed institution, which is usually a hospital. And abortions must be supported by two doctors, one of which is an OBGYN.

Actually we have the right to whatever we want.

Nobody follows black letter law wrt abortions here. If you want one you get one.

New Zealand is a horrible, xenophobic tourist trap, run by a monolithic cadre of white Protestant men who have a frightening amount in common with the core beliefs of ISIS/L. I can’t believe all the people posting words of love for our island have ever been here. The rate of domestic and child abuse is the highest in the Anglophone world. John Key has effectively ruined the brief Kiwi legacy of being green and anti-nuke, but the deep-seated hatred of women and “foreigners” has always been present here.
