Once again Stewart is on point. All during the lead up to this the one thing i kept hearing over and over again was “Boy, he’s going to be an ugly woman.” As if the fact that she was finally going to be able to live how she was always meant to, that she was free of the burden of being in the wrong body. Nope, that don’t mean shit. You better make sure you’ve got America’s collective boner in mind before you dare try to find happiness for yourself.

I dunno, I feel like Stewart is straining for a point here. Caitlyn has not yet proven herself to be smarter or kinder or more athletic or better at business or whatever than she was when she was called Bruce. Literally all we know is that she’s presenting as a woman now, looks great, and seems happy. What else are people supposed to talk about, if not that she looks good? Especially since Caitlyn decided to debut her transition with a lingerie pose on the cover of a major magazine, which is not usually a step people take if they want their business acumen to be the primary discussion point?

I agree all the attention to Caitlyn’s physical appearance is a bit much and the talking heads are being asinine as per usual, and honestly I’m kind of sick of this story in the way I get sick of any celebrity I hear about a lot, but I’m not sure there’s much else *to* talk about at this point.

  I see your point that lingerie on a magazine cover invites commentary. It’s just the amount and style of the commentary is eye rolling. My guess is that no one is going to wait around to talk about who she is as a person. After this will or won’t bang phase ends, my projection is that she will quickly be forgotten as Stewart points out.

Like, the amount of outrage I’ve seen, I assumed it was some equivalent of like a Purple Heart or something, and that obviously that seemed ridiculous.

I... don’t really get why everyone’s so stunned that she’s beautiful. I mean, she’s had a lot of plastic surgery, and the whole point of (cosmetic, facial) plastic surgery is that you can design how you look. No judgment about the decision to have the surgery, I just don’t really get the full-of-awe reaction. Unless I’m just overthinking things and it comes from the assumption that you can’t possibly “pass” after transitioning? disclosure: I live in a relatively trans-friendly area, maybe I’m out of tune with general-public perceptions
