Let this be a lesson to all you hell-bound nonbelievers out there. Prayers work.

Prayer or extreme weather due to climate change, who cares? It all evens out in the end.

Abbott is an asshat but, I can’t believe I am typing this, he was out touring Wimberley and the Hill Country that was torn up so we/he have/has a lot going on. Maybe he blocked her and forgot about it. Still, just say hello.

Honestly, I have to wonder to what extent is this a problem with poor storm water management?

It depends on what part of Texas we’re talking about. In Houston, yeah, it’s probably partially caused by poor drainage. The hill country is an entirely different story because of the the prevalence of limestone in the ground. There’s a huge amount of rock lying just under the topsoil (6-12” down) and it can’t absorb water so the ground gets saturated quickly and floods. Rivers and creeks have the same rock lying at the bottom so they rise quickly and then the water has nowhere to run.

Yeah, I’m mostly talking about Houston since it’s on the water, it should be that much easier than Dallas and Austin. Here in FL in most cities, you build anything above a single house, and you have to account for where the water will go in inclement weather. Also, for at least anytime a road repaved or made, there are now sidewalks, bike lanes, and most importantly storm water mgmt. The downside is you kinda have retention ponds just about everywhere, but some commercial properties build on top, and some neighborhoods try their best to make it look like a lake.

I am a horrible person, but cue the state asking for that pesky federal funding they like to veto in every congressional session... FEMA is only worthless to them when they don’t need it.

You got it! And probably none of the Repubs congressmen or senators from the state ever vote to increase FEMA funding...

The craziest thing for me was the amount of time it rained. Just sustained heavy downpour for hours.

I went to take my dogs on their last walk of the night and the lightning just lit up the sky continuously. It looked like daylight out. I said, “Whelp, y’all can shit in the house,” and hightailed it back inside.

Please tell me one of the cars in that photo has Global Warming denier-in-chief George W. Bush in it. No injury, just the indignity of having to walk home through a flood after twenty years of ignoring the effects of climate change.

“We are floating in a house that is now floating down the river,” Laura reportedly said. “Call mom and dad. I love you, and pray.”

Wow that is intense. We had crazy flooding here during Tropical Storm Irene. There was an entire town basically washed away. Local reporters followed this one family has they recovered. The interview with the homeowner was chilling. He had barely escaped when the house crumbled around him and still three years later had trouble sleeping.

      Vermont?

I was at my sister-in-law’s place NE of Manchester that fall about 1-2 weeks after Irene and it was amazing how much devastation there was.

Perhaps I am, but it’s hard not to when your state keeps electing idiotic governors like Rick Perry and your leaders pander to Jade-Helm conspiracy theorists.

Is anyone requesting relief yet? I wasn’t able to get to work this morning at 5:30 AM, I couldn’t get more than a mile from my house before coming to water too deep. But by 10 AM I was able to get to a freeway and had no issues. For my part of Houston at least it doesn’t seem at all necessary to request relief funding.

Note: just questioning if anyone wants relief. I don’t think this warrants it like Sandy did.

It was more about how some chose NOT to help those who genuinely needed it. I’m sure they will request some federal money.
