Here’s a simple rule of thumb:

If you’re going to compare anything to the Holocaust that is not an actual Holocaust: don’t

Not even other genocides? What else am I supposed to use to make my Turkish friend feel as bad as my German friend?

I said “an actual Holocaust”, not just THE Holocaust. I guess I should have used a lower case “h”.

I think Dothe... was making the same comment, but in suitable Stalin-esque fashion, all evidence of that comment has gone....

Ah yes, who can forget the famous line? “First they came for the hedge fund managers...”

I’m more surprised that hedge fund managers think they’re as popular as Jews in Germany right before WW2.

One prominent investor—who, like others, asked to remain anonymous given the divisive subject—called the rhetoric “class warfare” and noted other times in history, including before World War II, when financial speculators were unfairly blamed by politicians.

Good thing CNBC is granting anonymity to people who merely express unpopular opinions.

Particularly when expressing those opinions on CNBC is essentially risk-free and would be likely to help you advance your career

Blaming the Jews for Germany’s financial woes was wrong because it attributed actions to a group of people solely on the basis of their religious affiliation rather than any discernible misconduct. Every Jew was at fault for Germany’s hyperinflation and unemployment regardless of whether they were a Rothschild or an itinerant peddler.

Hedge fund managers aren’t being targeted as a group because of some immutable characteristic such as their skin colour or ethnic background. Rather individual hedge fund managers are being lambasted because their investment strategies are wreaking havoc on the broader economy. It is their conduct that is being questioned not their actual being.

Sometimes the obvious needs to be spelled out (sigh)

Comparing calls for higher taxes on rich people to the Holocaust is a bona fide meme for these jackasses.

Class Warfare!? Instead of the Jews, it’s the hedge fund managers!? Well, I never!

If that asshole only knew what real class warfare looked like! How it can cause real pain and suffering, and pit the majority against a completely innocent minority in a way that is divisive and tears us all apart! I ask you, anonymous hedge fund manager, to spend one day in the shoes of a promoted commenter at Gawker, and see whether your analogy still holds up! We are the blameless victims of a system that separates us by no fault of our own! We aren’t a selfish elite, we are pun creators working to contribute to the very fabric of our community!

Of course, I jest, but to my fellow commenters, grey, black, and color-fluid, I’d like to quote Shania Twain in saying “Don’t hate the playa, hate the game.”
