Christians start fixating on the good parts of your religion, you know like helping the poor.

Stop using your religion as an excuse for your racism, sexism, and homophobia. Normal people are tired of this shit.

    Regards,

    Humanity.

This is somewhat stating the obvious, but I think it’s a point that’s also been drowned out over the years. Just as there are liberal and conservative politics, there are liberal and conservative Christians. Conservatives have done a very good job of hogging the spotlight when it comes to religion and are very loud when it comes to what they perceive as “right and wrong”—but the more I look at it, conservative politics and conservative religion are basically the same goddamn conservatism. If liberals could be as “loud and proud” about their religious beliefs as they are about their politics, then Christianity would be in better shape; but when push come to shove, a lot of liberal Christians cower when conservative Christians wield the sword of orthodoxy.

The moderate Christians are failing in their duties to retake their religion.

“if he was going to go to hell for being gay that he might as well go to hell by committing suicide.”

That’s one way of thinking about it. I usually approach this theological question a bit differently though: if you are going to go to hell for being gay anyway, then you may as well just enjoy yourself and your life and as many dicks as God will allow you to have. But why commit suicide if that will send you to the same place?

It’s hard to imagine someone who is simultaneously capable of both this kind of clear headed thinking and being religious.

He’s most likely a psychopath, who uses his occupation as a “priest” as a cover for doing terrible things. It’s one of the top ten occupations that psychopaths tend to gravitate to.

As below. I just know that if Jebus had hung around (pardon the phrase) for a while, he would have said “You know, dude....you. You gotta go. Now.” And*POOFT!* They’d be fish-food.

Wow, look how nice that church is being to their Grindr Pastor. Much nicer than the Grindr Pastor for telling someone to go kill themselves. It really is all about who you know.

Look at this kid, though. This man insinuated he should kill himself and he still goes, “Honestly, you feel very bad for him...” He’s 17 and he’s already saying shit like that. Damn. Kudos, honestly.

Pretty sure he’s a better example of a good Christian than this ex-priest could ever hope to be.

He’s very smart, too: “I wish him happiness, but only as his truest self.”

        Bravo, Tyler.

... but the god who is faithful will not forsake us.

I realize this is the least egregious part, but this is a perfect example of ways that people invoke religious language to say sheer nonsense. What is the thing referred to here in which a god would have faith? This friggin’ church? The predictability of human hypocrisy? Why would a god need faith anyways?

I think most christians just make shit up as they go along. I feel badly for those who put too much stock in their moral authority.

God needs faith because although he/she is omnipotent he/she is apparently insecure.

I am so, so glad this kid is still with us despite the blatant spiritual abuse he received at the hands of this pastor. Tyler, keep on keepin’ on. God loves you, just as you are.

I know, that’s my takeaway from this too - luckily Tyler is ok, and I’m sure soon he’ll be much better than ok. Much better than his loser pastor, that’s for sure.

I guess it’s easier to try to get gay teens to kill themselves than worry about them recognizing you on grindr.
