  Whenever I see the ridiculous amounts of money groups spend on these stupid lawsuits or the amount of money people will raise for groups that have no need for it-cough*pizza place*cough-the former teacher in me thinks about all the projects on DonorsChoose that are scrambling for funding. But no, we can waste thousands of dollars fighting the exception on a mandate that was made for us. Ugh.

I am admitting up front that I only did a year of contract law and hated every minute of it.

I’m definitely NO expert, but I believe that if the contract between Notre Dame and the insurance companies was a complete and final agreement which stated that the companies would not provide any contraception, then Notre Dame has a good argument for making the insurance companies adhere to the contract. A change in the law would usually not cancel the contract because the contract was signed based on the law as it stood at that time (unless this new law is different - again I’m not expert). However, based on the article it sounds like the contract may have had vague or ambiguous terms about what medical coverage would be provided, in which case the insurance companies could likely argue that they cannot be barred from providing contraceptive coverage and Notre Dame could go cry into their Jesus tissues.
