I stopped wearing contacts after scratching my cornea, which was more painful than anything I’ve experienced. Now I feel like that was a good choice.

I only wore them a few times for sports. Stopped wearing them when I tried to remove one and accidentally pinched the white part of my eyeball too hard, causing it to bleed. That was it for me. Risk of losing my eyesight is so not worth it, not to mention the hassle of putting them on/taking off/cleaning/etc.

I’ve had that. Super uncomfortable, so maybe not as bad as yours.
Having your eye being operated on while you’re awake is a bit surreal.

The story about the teenager who had this same issue because she never put in new contacts is the sole reason I now wear daily disposables.

How did she get this parasite? She got tap water in her contacts.

That’s why here in West Virginia we only soak our contacts in Mountain Dew.

Ha. I couldn’t wear my contacts yesterday because I was seeing the doctor and it was THE WORST. I fucking hate wearing glasses because stuff warps at the edges and it’s confusing.

I get spots on my glasses and lose them and they fall down my nose but when I did try to get contacts the doctor put them in to demonstrate and it got stuck, five minutes she was pulling and scrapping that thing out of my eye!

But...why would you ever let tap water near your contacts? The pH is wrong and so it BURNS! And since you get a new freebie case whenever you buy most contact fluid brands (if not all), there doesn’t seem much point in cleaning the case with tap water either — just toss the old case and use the new one.

Well, what scares me is that water can get on your contacts in the shower. I often keep them in when I shower because I hate feeling blind when slippery surfaces are in play. Buuuut. I also would hate a parasite in my eye. Guhh!

I wear mine in the shower too — and have for seventeen years. I don’t think very much water gets in your eyes as long as you close them when your face is under the water. Also taking them out every night to store in appropriate, cleansing solution probably cuts the risk to nigh zero. The story doesn’t specify exactly what this young woman did to get her eyeball infected, but considering her age and how many people wear contacts, I imagine she made an obvious error.

That was her mistake. Water is clearly for toilets. She should have used Brawndo.
