Fun Fact to make you feel old: those born in ‘99 and ‘00 and almost certainly don’t remember anything about 9/11 will be able to vote in about 2 years.

Who’s up for a 4th invasion of Iraq?

I heard “Fly Away” by Lenny Kravitz on the local classic rock station yesterday. It was a painful moment.

The worst thing about the whole “millenial” thing are the people who, for whatever resaon, adamantly deny that they are millenials. I was born in 1987, yet ended up in an argument with someone born in the 90s that she was not a millenial because reasons.

Sorry to all the early 30s lame people who feel older. You’re stuck with the label, too.

As someone born around the same time, I think 1981 is a bad year for the “official” generation change, and that it should be closer to 1985. I think that’s primarily due to the Cold War ending. Growing up in the late 80’s and early 90’s I have no memory of the Cold War or what it was like during it, but people born in 1981 do.

Being a person born in 1981 I have no real memory of the Cold War “effects” of the time. I think we maybe did a couple of bomb drills when I was in elementary school?
And aren’t I Generation X? Did that shitty label ever stick?

The internet is old enough that we will be able to follow the headline trajectory that replicates the same nonsense they said about millennials but with centennials. Buzzfeed will have a goldmine in their hands recycling listicles for the new demographic just replacing the gifs with more contemporary pop culture references.

“Centennials” is such an awful name for the generation, considering “millenials” is already taken. Be more original, demographers/ad executives!

Also, young people are insane. Children are insane. “Bae” is not a word. Get off your smartphone, because I might walk into you when I’m on my smartphone and you should be paying attention so that doesn’t happen! Things weren’t nearly like this when I was a teenager all of a decade ago, when kids had to wait all of 1.5 seconds for a website to load. KIDS THESE DAYS BETTER GET OFF MY.....front apartment stoop.

“Millenials” was a relatively late-arriving name for the generation. We had “generation-Y” (usually followed by “Y’know, generation-why-me?! get it? get it?”) shoved down our throats until at least the mid-late 2000s. I’m sure there’s a whole new terrible name that we just haven’t thought of yet.

Pft, Centennials are already so last year, it’s going to be all about Decadinals™, those born after 2010. Or, Generation Ψ, as they will choose to call themselves.

On the other hand, Baby Boomers will all be dead in not too much longer. So Gen X gets to take up the “Off my lawn” mantle.

Centennials is the stupidest thing I’ve heard this morning. Is the next generation after that the 2000ites? 2000 is one year — it only gets to name one generation. Stop naming generations after the year 2000. And Generation Z is stupid too. Generation Y was stupid because it’s just a letter that came after X, which was also stupid but at least original, but Z? At least fucking try, generation naming people. The Greatest Generation actually meant something, even if it’s stupid for being untrue. The best American generations were the Beat Generation, the Lost Generation and the Silent Generation. South Africa now has the Born-Free Generation, which is solid. I propose the Born Into a Miasma of Regret and Pollution Generation for all generations from here to the end of the world.

The parenting has changed though. My mom was pretty hands-on by 80s/90s standards, but she was positively neglectful compared to the helicopter parents of today. I’d be a neurotic wreck if I were being raised today.
