I know now that the title reads “Cocaine-Munching”, but for some reason I read “Coochie-Munching” and now I’m drinking heavily because I’m traumatized.

I keep reading it as cookie-munching. Which isn’t as funny as your interpretation, and now I want cookies.

Cookie munching is good. Me likes the cookies. The thought of coochie munching moths might keep me awake tonight. Seriously.

Also, I think we might be twins.

This is actually a really cool idea. I’m a little hesitant because flooding any ecosystem with too much of one thing can really screw it up, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Anyone else read the title as “coochie munching moths?” No???? Cuz I did and was super confused for like 15 full seconds before I looked again and realized what it said.

Between the chikungunya mosquitos and the moths I don’t foresee Lindsey L having much fun this summer.

Based on the headline, I thought this was going to be the story of moths that ingest cocaine. I had visions of someone trying to snort lines but is too busy swatting at moths.

I know, I only clicked through to find out if those moths would get high and go crazy.

I’m picturing a windswept coked up moth on a 50th floor balcony, swaying in the blurred light, and one of its antennas is bent, mind racing, just thinking of that other moth from years ago, the one it thought it loved. And there’s a voice in its head that’s just like “how did we get here.”

I want someone to write fan fiction about this stock photo.

Red sequin top. Granite table top. Gold card or Panera gift card.

          Go.

Sounds like a bad idea. See the cane toad in Australia, the mongoose in Hawaii, etc.

I’m all for trying to stop the drug trade, but I don’t think this is the answer.

This moth only eats these two specific varieties of coca that produce cocaine. It’s more niche adapted than the cane toad, mongoose, etc. Also Columbia is already part of its native range, so it’s not like they’re bringing in an exotic.

Thanks for the link. I agree that this is probably less risky, but there is always some risk in disturbing the balance of an ecosystem. I guess I’m a conservative when it comes to nature. It’s too easy to fuck things up.
