Where are the leaders of the white community in all this? Why aren't the actively denouncing this criminal? Their absence speaks volumes.

The white community doesn’t have to show it commitment to law and order because we show it by not bitching about the police all the time.

Most white people I know are just as critical of police. It’s not just black people who dislike corruption.

Im honestly curious, what information leads the cops to think she was complicit in the murder? I mean, maybe she was.. but was there anything specifically pointing to it?

I mean, cops have killed much more brazenly, with video evidence, how do they get off and she doesnt?

I read some of the linked stories and apparently Utah doesn’t allow for conviction of aiding and abetting, so they chose to charge her with murder. Maybe I need to learn more about this, but sending an 18 yr old girl to prison for life bc her dead boyfriend killed someone, when they have no evidence to prove that she was somehow complicit in the shooting of a police officer, seems dubious. I feel like not allowing for an aiding and abetting charge (she did drive him—she is guilty of that, for sure, whatever her motivations at the time) led to an overly harsh and inappropriate conviction in this case. I hope in the appeals process she overturns a life in prison conviction. Prison time seems appropriate, but life in prison for a crime she didn’t herself commit? It’s by proxy punishment since the actual assailant is dead, which is fucked up.

Wait, so did the sinners become Jesus (messiahs) or did Jesus become a sinner?

So the cops who were with <insert cop name here> that killed <insert dead black man here> are also guilty of murder?

If 17 year old boys can be charged with felony rape and charged as sex offenders, let her be charged as an adult as well.

She is charged as an adult with several felonies. Age at the time of the crime makes her ineligible generally for the death penalty, though some states have tried to find ways around it. But she can definitely get life in prison.

So we agree. And I’m not advocating for death penalty or anything.

Startlingly reminiscent of the last true crusade of Hunter S. Thompson: the girl was a minor player in the murder, but she was the last one alive when the cops finally moved in, so she gets the sentence. http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2004/06/i…

So Garcia-Jauregui shot the guy but she gets convicted. But hey, it’s Utah, it’s evident why they urgently need to convict people for homicide:

She gets a murder conviction simply because she was there when a cop was shot, but a cop can literally choke a man to death on tape and get away clean. Where is it that I sign up to be a cop? Seems like if you want to be protected in this country you need to be on the force.
