The only reason to care about Nebraska is because of Willa Cather. So... yeah.

I only read “my antonia” in high school. Even then all i remember was being confused as to what it mean that her family lived in a “dugout”. Still not sure what i was supposed to be picturing, but obviously in my head they were all in a baseball dugout huddled around a wood cook stove.

But the problem is that the Old Testament is so different from the New Testament, it has a very different message. The God of the Old Testament is a cranky, vengeful bastard, the God of the New Testament is love and compassion. I still say Christians should hew closest to Jesus’ teachings of compassion and love, not the tribal desert people genesis myths and intolerant crap from the Old Testament.

    Wow.

A perfect—and I mean perfect—illustration of how “the Olds” simply cannot cognitively accept gay people as anything but lurid, drug-addled sex fiends and pederasts.

This is exactly something every gay person has to deal with on a regular basis, young straight people oh-so-pleased with the “progress” you’ve been seeing please take note.

By that I mean to say: it’s great our society is moving forward, but remember the looks your aunt(s) and uncle(s) give to younger gay family members? Remember the weird vibes thrown at the non-family member who was somehow at a family gathering in the recent past? Yeah, those were because the above “lawsuit” was running through those relative’s heads....

Oh, even better, as a gay man who has the privilege of dealing with this kind of stuff, I am the one expected to be oh-so-polite and kind to the Sylvia Ann Driskell-types I am forced to be around. How fucked up is that? To be forced to politely interact with an “elder” who thinks the above things about you?

The Olds of America cannot die fast enough....

He did say a man should not lay with another man so, make sure you do it standing, kneeling, or doggie style. Lesbian, don’t worry, you’re clear to go!

Here’s the problem with that...Jesus also didn’t say a mumbling word against slavery. Or domestic violence. Or texting while driving. While, as a fellow homosexual deviant whatever, I think the Bible is a shaky foundation for anti-gay sentiment, I also think the “Well, Jesus didn’t say anything about it” defense is equally shaky...

Too bad she handwrote out that entire petition- all that work only to watch the petition get dismissed for lack of standing. If Jesus wants to bring a lawsuit, he's going to have to descend to earth and do it himself.

Now take a second to imagine this picture.

You are Jesus, freshly decended to earth to set some things straight.
You approach the relevant offices and announce yourself: “I am Jesus, I’m here on official business.”
Before long, they will have carted you off in a straight-jacket and probably heavily sedated you using a wide range of chemical cocktails...

After you have impressed that image thoroughly into your mind. Ask yourself this: If Jesus were to (have) come back to earth, how screwed are we?

Religious suits usually get thrown out because of inability to serve the complaint on the defendants, but this one has the fun twist of suing on BEHALF of God...

I’m pretty sure God frowns upon her “speaking-for-him” shenanigans. Think he usually uses some other type of life form, like a plant. And he seems to be pretty keen on fire - with all the burning stuff in the Bible, I wonder if he isn’t a bit of a pyro.

This is exactly how my Midwestern relatives think.
