    I’m glad Chicago is getting the library, but I do think it should have gone on the UIC plot of land. The area UIC proposed really needs some help, and the jobs, tourism and exposure the library would bring would be amazing for the neighborhood.

    That being said, I know it’s going near UChicago and I hope it goes in Washington Park so the entire park can become a sort of African American museum campus — DuSable Musuem of African American History is there already.

      UIC is University of Illinois at Chicago, UChicago is University of Chicago, then there is CSU -Chicago State University. While UIC is a pretty great underrated school, it is on the near west side. UChicago is southside. I however don’t want Washington Park to lose any land. It is beautiful and park space should stay park space. Plus there is a massive empty lot at 60th and King Dr right on the edge of the park. Or any of the open land where the Robert Taylor homes used to stand would be perfect.

      I also got Marcus Samuelsson’s Off Duty cookbook and literally every single thing I make from it is the most delicious thing I have ever eaten. The cheddar bacon chive biscuits are WHAT IS UP.

      Also I finally have a reason to use my Aleppo pepper outside of just pouring it on everything I eat instead of hot sauce.

    I don’t know why this should be a surprise to anyone. It would have been like George W Bush having his library in Portland, Maine. because his family summer home is in Kennebunkport. The only real connection to NYC is the time he spent at Columbia, but he also spent time at Harvard. He taught law at U of Chicago Law School, was in the Ill. state Senate and represented Illinois in the US Senate. I never thought it would be anywhere but Illinois.

    What exactly is a Presidential Library? I suspect it isn’t a library full of the president’s favourite books for use by the local citizens. Because that would be cool.

      They offer a bit of perspective on the human being that held the title. They are also part of our National Archives. Basically, a place to learn about the guy as a fully formed person, not just the years as President of the United States.

    I thought it was weird that New York was ever in contention, given the fact that he has openly talked about not loving his time at Columbia. (And let us not forget the beautiful Fuck You that was Obama speaking at Barnard’s commencement after Columbia College has spent years petitioning him.)

    Makes sense that Chicago would get it. I’m a New Yorker and I ain’t even mad (now if you want to talk pizza, on the other hand...)
