    I know that in Russia and the periphery, there is seemingly a great deal of value placed on not looking “weak” - far more so than in the West.

    However, someone needs to tell Putin, the more you pound your (bare) chest and shout “RUSSIA STRONK!”, invade other countries and act absolutely terrified of gay people in an effort to dispel any illusions of “weakness”, the more insecure you look to the rest of the world.

    Quite a bit of what he does is for domestic consumption, but I get the sense that he really believes the rest of the world perceives power the same way Russians do. He’s actively undermining his own goals on a consistent basis.
