I guess we can’t say Gawker never reports on the “good guy with a gun” anymore...

Aaaand of course conservative gun nuts are drooling over this cheering how liberals’ minds will explode because, hurrah! A hero with a gun takes out a bad guy with a gun.

From which point I’d like to ask in the history of American mass shootings, how many civilians have attempted to take out a shooter by themselves, and done so successfully.

I’m happy this ended well, but a bunch of uncoordinated civilians taking matters into their own hands can actually increase the body count, or just plain old get themselves killed. Like the hero with a gun who was killed by the husband and wife team of Jerad and Amanda Miller.

There are lots of instances of lawful gun owners using their weapons to prevent harm to other people and stopping crime. Many many more incidents of this than of mass shootings. Even if you don’t want to believe the NRA’s figures, which is completely understandable, it still happens way more often than mass shootings. This is hardly an isolated incident.

The reason no one stops school shootings is because they are gun free zones, inviting anyone with a gun to go nuts. Or says my gun-loving friends.

Well shit, a “good guy with a gun” actually stopped the threat? +1 for that.

As for the repercussions, dude has to take what he gets.

What complete nonsense. Every single Uber driver I’ve ever encountered has been kind, professional and sociable. Take Gawker’s Uber-hating dick out of your mouth and grow a brain.

One of the many active lawsuits against Uber at the moment (I think it’s in California?) is asking this question. The question will be figured out soon.

I’m OK with this outcome. Good for him. It shows that in certain situations (though nowhere near all) using a concealed piece is worthwhile.

Probably more a function of lack of training and high adrenaline and not his desire to shoot to incapacitate. Cops are trained to kill when using their weapon. Not to discount this guy, but he most likely didn’t train with this gun that much and therefore didn’t have the accuracy that a police officer would... for better or worse.

A lot of cops aren’t very good shooters, especially in major metro areas. NYPD in the last few decades has been especially egregious with their use of spray and pray.
