It looks like they’ve pledged allegience to ISIS also. Because that’s just who the world needs franchiseing itself.

I follow several Twitter account of people in Nigeria and even with twitters limited space you can tell the pain they have been going through all year trying to get these kidnapped girls back when it seems like not even the government seems to care. I hope that with renewed focus on the issue some headway might be able to be made.

From these accounts, it seems like people know exactly where the girls are. Aisha’s aunt came to get her. Other girls have been ransomed. If a bunch of teenaged girls can escape and walk home, it’s not exactly fort Knox. This leads me to think that our world governments have no interest in helping these girls. They know exactly where they are and yet no one is doing anything about it. Sickening!

No kidding! If they can get all this info, there is no damn reason that they couldn’t get them outta there.

it sucks but the nigerian army is nowhere near equipped enough to handle this

secondly who’s to say that won’t just kill all of the girls should the army plan to invade the camp

its not the easiest problem to solve

After the article yesterday about the little boy who was starved to death to rid him of evil spirits or whatever, I can only skim this one. Boop much appreciated.

Boko Haram, Isis, and any other fundamentalist, insane religious cult deals with one thing first, sexual sadism. Their “religious” beliefs aren’t even a credible cover. Isis has issued a doctrine justifying the rape and sexual torture of pre-pubescent girls. All extreme fundamentalist religions deal with the fear and hatred of women first and foremost. Everything else is a distant second.

It says some girls were freed because their families paid a ransom. I wonder if the other families had that option but couldn't afford it? And if so, would there be a way to donate? I get that that sort of thing could be problematic, but if it helps even one girl get out, it would be worth organizing.

That could get the donors into potentially sticky situations regarding funding terrorism.

As it stood last year when the girls were kidnapped

In response to this litany of horrors, Amnesty has a long list of recommendations for everyone who is — to be blunt about it — not currently doing a goddamn thing.

No one really has any good ideas about what can be done. What are the options here? The US invading? Sanctions? Backchannel negotiating with a government more corrupt and brutal and Boko Haram? None of the options lead to better outcomes for anyone involved, neither does continuing to do shit all. It’s grim all around.

Almost everyone in Nigeria believes certain government players have been involved one way or the other. Believe me, the US, UK, Australia and many other countries have come up with many different well thought out strategies to bring the girls back but they keep being thwarted by either lack of coorporation or downright sabotage from certain members of the Nigerian government and armed forces. The best hope is good governance and we are all quietly hopeful about the new president we have elected in.

Just watch this interveiw with an Australian hostage negotiator for starters. It will send you down a deep rabbit hole.

Is the US or NATO or UN doing anything about this? Do we not know where they have their camps? This is such bullshit. I mean we fucking found Bin Laden, and we can’t find this bunch of assholes?
