Whoah, whoah, whoah. The bobcat dropped the fish and the cold blooded photographer just stood there and watched it down on land. The bobcat is a diner. The photographer is a murderer.

Nah. The bobcat killed the fish and didn't even eat it. More like a Dickcat than a Bobcat IMHO

The shark apparently made its way back into the sea, so in fact no one is a murderer.

Except presumably the shark, who was eating fish before the bobcat unceremoniously dragged him out of the water.

I was really confused about this... That picture makes it look like it's a mountain lion with a deformed/cut off tail, but upon searching Google for pictures it turns out that Florida bobcats do indeed look like that.

As for the 'fish', the tail would suggest that it's a young Lemon Shark?

    It kinda looks similar.

It's not clear enough, really. It could be several different species of shark. Possibly a black tip or lemon both are pretty common to find (and catch) feeding on bait fish in the surf.

What I don't understand is why the author is implying that it might not be a shark. And why come commenters (at least on the original story) don't think it's a bobcat, but instead think it's a panther with it's tail cut off. Panthers are not known to be in that area, there certainly isn't a breeding population, and also it is clearly a bobcat.

Absolutely. Florida bobcat with a smallish shark. Maybe the fact he's stretched out in stride is confusing people. Besides the tail, the spotted tummy and the ear tufts are clearly visible. Not to mention panthers are rarer than hen's teeth in the wild.

    That's a mountain lion, not a bobcat.

    This is a bobcat:

This is also a Florida Bobcat.

They don't all look alike. It's not as if they are Black Jaguars...

No mountain lions in Vero Beach. There are panthers in Florida but they are extremely rare. And they don't have that bobbed tail.

Saw this one sunning itself in the road through a wildlife refuge near Cape Canaveral a while back. There were some British tourists there in a van and they asked us if it was a "Pewma." Everyone got decent pics until it got bored with us and sauntered off into the grass.

When reached for comment, this octopus called the cat a pussy and told him to try something with claws next time.

So the bobcat dragged it out of the ocean just for fun? It didn't even eat the fish? What a dick.

The bobcat saw the human, and thought it would rather go hungry than risk being killed by a bullet.
