    America's last populist

Is there a different definition for populism in the US than the one I'm familiar with? Don't the Republicans usually trade pretty heavily on folksy, them-darn-elitist-city-folks-style populism?

They hate city folk, but mostly because they're ethnic and gay and liberal.

Also, the distaste for the term "moderate" on this board and others makes me shake my head a bit. Like...not being a rampant, logic-averse ideologue is supposed to be a GOOD thing, no?

Moderate anything means you support the patriarchy. Moderate leaning right means you are cishet transphobic scum.

      This is internet logic.

In my experience, moderates aren't people who've successfully avoiding being logic-averse ideologues, they're people who are extremely good at compartmentalizing their positions in ways that disguise (to themselves) their overall logical inconsistency. They are people who are highly resistant to cognitive dissonance, who absurdly promote themselves as more reasonable than the people who make the effort to have a coherent worldview.

I know people would love for her to run, but the White House is not the right place for her. Aside from being a one issue candidate and having run a very, very mediocre Senate campaign, the job of the President just requires someone who is somewhat devious, something that has been a big disappointment with Obama. Running a successful White House and outmaneuvering your opponents is a blood sport. He was naive through his first term and even part of his second, always reaching across the aisle like this was going to get him somewhere. He never got the fact that you need to cut these fuckers off at the knees every chance you get.

Warren should work toward becoming Senate minority leader and eventually Senate Majority Leader. Congress is where the actual laws are made. She could be there through Democratic AND Republican Presidents several times over. Imagine how much she could get done in the next 30 years. A lot more than having 100 days, trying to get her footing back the next 100 days and then running for one more term. The White House is basically a 2 year job which if you're lucky is spread out over 8 years.

YES! She can do so much more good in the senate that she could ever do in the White House

I've always considered myself a moderate who leans right. I've never been crazy about Elizabeth Warren...but god damn. She NEEDS to run. She'd have my vote just due to lack of a reasonable candidate since Clinton.

No fucking means NO, people. Damn! She's actually been saying it unequivocally and consistently for a while now.

Will never understand why the GOP didn't put this kind of pressure on Kay Bailey Hutchinson to run with McCain in 2008. That might have actually been fight. But she must have really not wanted it and neither, apparently, does Elizabeth Warren. Learn to take a strong hint.

This is what I don't get: there currently exists an enthusiastic candidate with an executive track record who is running to the left of Clinton. His name is Martin O'Malley, and you can find him on TV, the newspaper, the internet, and especially Iowa. He could probably use some help right now! But Purity Pony Party dipshits keep badgering this poor lady.

Right? That's kinda what I was thinking?

      Though, I'd rather see a Sanders/Warren 2016 ticket tbh.

I don't blame her one bit for not wanting to run. Remember that whole dustup about her native american heritage? Besides, who would want the grinder of campaigning, with all the attendant fake schmoooziness, all the ridiculous pandering, all the icky sticky nasty fundraising. Let's give her some credit for being true to herself on this, just as she has been on the important issues. Who knows, she may end up in a cabinet post in a few years, regardless.
