    Come on Biddle.

How would having a state.gov address have prevented this mistake?

Presumably, you'd use that one to discuss Pakistan, and your private e-mail to discuss interior decorating?

I mean...yes. It would have been a problematic if this were reversed and she'd sent state secrets to her interior designer. But she didn't, right?

As someone with access to a LOT of sensitive, attorney-client privileged personal and business records (of banks, corporations, major recording artists etc.) I fully understand and empathize here. I too prefer to keep my work and personal email, including contacts, on my iphone/ipad (basically mirrored devices, the latter rarely travels). So at most times I, like many, many other professionals, am usually only one 'click'/'reply all' away from a MAJOR fuck up that could crash financial markets or open someone up to massive civil and criminal liability. And yet the world mostly continues to turn day-to-day without that being considered a critical risk to our security. Even during happy hour.

This isn't best practices and should probably be discouraged for someone in her position, but it's also pretty par for the course.

      As far as you know.

So you're saying that you have your own personal server to which your employer does not have access, did not give you permission to set up, and which privileged client information that you occasionally mix up with your personal business? Really? Do you also "accidentally" manage to unlock your work office with your personal house keys?

Oh My God! Sam — what if she had hit reply all?!?!?!?!?!111?1!11

For for cryin' out loud. She was emailing Huma: her assistant and close, close friend. Their conversations very likely flowed back and forth between the professional and personal all the damn time. Now, if it was obvious the email was sent to wrong recipient, maybe you'll have something worthy of all this breathlessness... maybe.

Also, the subject line hardly suggests they were discussing a state secret—it's a freaking AP article.

Was Jeff Gerth busy today? He'd be freaking out about that top secret conversation.

The problem is that her professional email are supposed to be a matter of public record. Mixing it with her personal is completely inappropriate.

and the majority of the Gawker commenters will continue to defend her, unfortunately. I'm as liberal as they come but we'd be going apeshit if this was Jeb in her position.

It's funny, the same talking heads on Fox News who are going apeshit over this (looking at you, Hannity) were falling over themselves making all sorts of excuses (or simply not reporting the story at all) when Karl Rove deleted tens of thousands of e-mails when he was still working at the White House. I wonder how many times Fox News has mentioned the Rove e-mails as a parallel/historical context when discussing Hillary's e-mails in 2015.

Except that Jeb has his own email problems and I don't actually see anyone going apeshit over it.

Meanwhile, a jaded drone operator in a bunker in the Midwest glances at a screen, mutters: "West Elm? Hmmm... ok, sure, whatever..."

And thus a parallel universe was born in which the commentariat came to support drone strikes.

If emails on her iPad aren't going through it's probably an issue with the server; she should just contact whoever is running it and see if they can fix it .... oh, right.

I hear Hal Holbrook muttering in a parking garage....something about not believing the myths the media's created about the White House? And that these aren't very bright folks?

Did she BCC Huma's husband on this? More importantly, was Anthony sending his special electronic correspondences [gthe ones about very interior design] to Mrs. Clinton?

Enquiring minds are just dying to know!

I don't understand why this isn't bigger news. 60,000 emails permanently deleted so she can't be investigated adequately seems like it would cause a little more of an uproar than it has.

maybe because big corps own the media and she's in their pocket, just like GW was?
